They are regularly getting in new teas! They’re mostly all straight tea (think green, oolong, red/black), but they also have a selection of herbals from a local supplier. It’s great to see the new location taking off and many people stop by on a their trip to Austin.

This place is so welcoming and has a great variety of tea. There’s so available for tea service at their tea bars, and some which is only available to purchase.

Great to experience this location’s grand opening weekend May 15-17, 2025! There was quite the crowd and excitement. The new house has undergone a real transformation. By the sounds of it, they are planning a few more exciting transformations.

I’m so looking forward to West China Tea moving to our neighborhood. I can wait for their new location to open. They have the best tea – actual tea, not boba drinks. I’m looking forward to joining their membership now that we’re so close.

Wonderful experience with friends at the public / communal tea table. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Many of the folks who come are frequent customers, and were very friendly, too. They sell direct Chinese teas with delicious flavors. I was very impressed with having clear and different flavors with each steeping/pour! I would definitely bring visiting friends again!

West China Tea House is a true gem in Austin’s bustling food and beverage scene, offering a unique and deeply intentional experience that stands in stark contrast to the city’s many coffee shops and bars. This isn’t just a place to grab a quick drink; it’s a destination for slowing down, connecting with others, and exploring the rich, complex world of Chinese tea.

The ambiance is a major part of the appeal. Stepping inside feels like entering a different world—a tranquil, cozy space designed for communal gatherings. The setting encourages conversation and shared experience, whether you’re with friends or sitting at one of the tables with strangers.

The experience was so wonderful, I can’t really explain it. Sohan and Leland served us at an absolutely beautiful bar, the pond in the back looked lovely, and we shared six incredible teas. I loved it so much, I simply had to get the travel gai wan! (Well… my boyfriend got it for me.)

So happy I stumbled upon this place While looking for Lunar New Year events in Austin. I purchased advanced tickets for their Fire Horse Lunar New Year celebration that included the best dragon dancers with a scroll drop! They have teas that are harvested from China and are very hard to find commercially. We sampled red tea, fermented tea, oolong tea, and a green tea. The tea servers are very knowledgeable and explains the brewing process for each tea. I learned that the tea can be steeped more than once and it gets more flavorful! We can’t wait to go back.

Very cozy setup. Went here for the first time the other day. Whoever was running the place was kind enough to make space for me and another guest. Had a great experience trying tea with a group and meeting some new people.
However, we made it clear it was our first time there and the pricing was never explained to either of us.
She just kept pouring and steeping different teas.
At the end I was told we had consumed 6 pots *each* (we only drank 60-90ml MAX of each variety, as we were sharing the pot with a table of guests)
This amounted to $36
While I enjoyed the experience overall, I felt taken advantage of being new to this type of place.
Again, it just would’ve been nice to understand the pricing instead of just pouring me cup after cup without saying anything.

This place is very special, a gem amongst gems in Austin. An authentic Chinese tea house here in Texas, wonderful people with great service. Definitely would recommend for meeting friends casually over a cup of tea. Unique, alcohol free drinking culture; what more could you want

West China Tea House is a must every time my husband and I visit Austin. We love exploring the different teas they have, and the conversations we have here with the staff and other patrons are like no other. For our wedding we ordered a 357 g Sheng Puerh bing from the year that we met, and we plan to steep it once a year on each of our anniversaries going forward. Nate and the staff at West China Tea House were enormously helpful in sourcing this for us. We appreciate them so much!

China Tea House in Austin is a truly chill and tranquil retreat, perfect for unwinding and savoring authentic tea. What sets this spot apart is the opportunity to learn the history behind the different types of teas you taste. The staff guides you through the origins, cultivation, and traditional preparation methods of each blend, turning a simple tea break into an educational and deeply satisfying cultural experience. It’s the ideal spot to relax, explore complex flavors, and enrich your understanding of this ancient beverage.

We randomly found this place when we were in the area and it was love at first sip
They recently opened this location and it’s a bar like situation where you get to meet strangers and sip tea. They bring out a new tea for the group after a few rounds of the same pot of tea. I learned a lot and got to try different teas sourced from all over China.
