Place is lovely and clean and some of the staff have a nice customer service face. We found the yellow curry very bland and watery. Also the pad Thai was lacking flavor. Tried the kiwi colada which is like a pinacolada but with kiwi fruit, it was tasty.

Amazing and friendly people, I accidentally spilt my drink grabbing an order and they were very kind and respectful about it (I feel bad) but the food is amazing and good for its price, staffs are very amazing and didn’t question my strange rice order. OVERALL 10/10 and will be eating here more often.

The food never disappoints. The service is quick and efficient. The staff are lovely. The only reason I rated the atmosphere a 4 star is because I had run in from incredible torrential rain. The restaurant was full and everyone seemed happy to be indoors.

Lovely Thai restaurant with a nice outdoor seating area and a great vibe. The food was absolutely delicious — hands down some of the yummiest Thai food I’ve had. The staff were fabulous, friendly, and efficient, making the whole experience even better. Can’t wait to come back!

A surprisingly authentic Thai restaurant i. Whangarei. There are a lot of choices including gluten free and vegetarian dishes. The food is a little bit on the sweet side and not quite spicy enough if you’re from SE Asia. But they probably have to adjust the temperature to suite the kiwi tastebud so that’s understandable.
Service was great and the wait staff were patient and courteous albeit they don’t speak Thai. Food was well prepared, authentically seasoned, and came in generous portions. I had the Penang suj jai which was phenomenal. In fact it was so good that I took two spoonfuls before I remembered to take a picture.
Parking is a bit challenging as you have to park on the street. I’m not sure whether it’s OK to park in the parking lot shared by a bunch of chain restaurants a block away.

We ordered the red curry and cashew stir fry. All of the food was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and we’re able to get a table outside without a reservation on a busy night. The only drawback was some of the tables outside were a bit dirty but they cleaned up pretty easily.

Have loved this place for years but had issue after part of our takeaway order went wrong tonight. My husband went to collect the correct meal after we phoned to let them know but I was then phoned back (by the new owner he said) who was very rude and told me that I had ordered the wrong item despite me telling him I ordered Pad Thai (not chicken sticks!) along with our entrees. He told me that he had confirmed with his staff and that we had ordered the wrong meal, which was rubbish. I know a Pad Thai from chicken sticks and the menu numbers aren’t even close. He then said he was going to get the Police on to me because my husband told him we shouldn’t have to pay for the extra for travelling up to get a replacement meal due to their stuff up – another $14. While I was getting a bit cross, I also suggested he needed to learn about customer service – have never dealt with a restaurant owner who was so rude and obnoxious. My husband and I dine out around Whangarei frequently and have been going to Suk Jai for many years however I will certainly not be going there ever again and would now never recommend. The previous restauranteurs were wonderful but this guy is certainly not!

Suk Je Thai Restaurant offers great Thai cuisine in Whangarei. We’ve visited several times and are always impressed by the quality of the food. The indoor and outdoor seating options are comfortable, and the staff is consistently friendly and attentive. The dishes are not only delicious but also well-priced. If you’re a fan of Thai food, this is definitely a place you don’t want to miss in Whangarei. Highly recommend!
