This is an Indian restaurant with a large menu in a location where there are not that many Indians. So they are not flooded with customers yet still manage to have an expansive menu.
There are certain things to know about restaurants like this that are unavoidable, but I won’t mention that here. If you know you know.
All that said… the food at this Restaurant is still very good. The food just tastes good, so they must have a good chef.
The atmosphere is definitely good too… the place is kept clean and has a simple elegance.
The server was certainly friendly and accommodating.

This is the only Indian food i’ll ever eat. THIS PLACE IS SO FANTASTIC. the cheapest prices you’ll ever find and finally a place that respect spice tolerance. THIS IS A MUST TRY IN MADISON!! not to mention the lady there was the kindest, sweetest woman I have ever met. you absolutely won’t regret it 🙂

Update after a second visit: one good meal can be a fluke, but after our second meal, it’s clear that this is truly a gem. After seeing the Madison’s best, I was pretty surprised to see the lack of royal on the list, and even more surprised to see the restaurants that did make it. Royal is definitely my number 1 pick for Indian food in Madison.
Overall fantastic experience at a reasonable price. We ordered 3 entrees for 3, and we have at least another full meal out of solely left overs. Food was timed extremely well—minor word of caution—the medium heat is a good spice level, but close to our max.
Standouts were the fish pakora, lamb mango, and chicken jalfrezi. Naan tasted fresh and very tender. Mango lassi was also superb.

The worst restaurant service ever! When we entered, our presence was barely acknowledged. One woman staff took us to a table and menus handed over. We spent time choosing the menu and as soon as we placed the ordered, she informed that the wait time will be >45mins, and said v rudely that “I’m saying this ahead of time”. (It was definitely not ahead of time! We had entered tge restaurant and spent time looking at the menu) We politely said “oh sorry, it won’t work out for us, we have other commitments”. She said “THEN GO! Other people here are waiting, if you don’t have time, leave!”
It was an absolute waste of time to even get there. Absolutely unacceptable behavior.

Such good food and service! great options for vegans and people that are celiac/gluten free. the lovely woman serving us was incredibly clear about whether the food was gluten free or not and took time to double check the ingredients. highly recommend for anyone wanting yummy food!!

This was my first time dining with Royal Indian Cuisine and they did not disappoint. My food was prepared quickly and was hot when I arrived, despite me running a little late to pick it up. The portion sizes were excellent for the price. I ordered my dish “very spicy” and it did not disappoint. The lady at the counter was kind enough to warn me of the heat level, too. Thank you so much. I survived and it was exactly as spicy as I hoped it would be!
