Have been coming here for many years, even before Yellow Chilli days. Always has a very welcoming, cosy atmosphere. Last night no exception. The ‘on-the-house’ tomato soup taster is a very good idea. Something tasty and warm while you’re waiting. All our mains tasted fresh and vibrant. Long may the Yellow Chilli continue!

I ordered a lamb Rogan Josh. I was served a bright red chilli curry. After I ate with plenty of rouge curry in the bowl I mentioned to the owner. Who looked me in the eye and put me in a real position. He told
me it was how Rogan Josh was made in his restaurant and that it was indeed a lamb Rogan Josh. Who does he think he is kidding? I pretended like I was none the wiser as he tried so hard to get his point across my refrain from confronting the petty lier spared us from an aggressive incident. Strangely he then told me after I had gentlemanly not allow things to go astray -that in an instance like this I could have my meal at half price. When settling the account he said that will be $27.50. I knew that was not half of the bill and asked to see the invoice and it was for $41.00. He repeated that is half. Perhaps half a wit for forfeited mana, surrendered like a petty scoundrel. I paid the $27 -as who can really be bothered going to town with a proprietor who lies and lies again. The $14 represented the Garlic Naan and Mango Lassi. His pride in this being an authentic Indian style restaurant which conducted hospitality differently to the remaining 1709 Indian Restaurants in the country. How outlandish and extremely misleading and totally dishonest. I did what any self respecting citizen would and let my feet do the talking. I won’t be back. Not to leave things on a sour note the meat platter looked good but was miserably priced to represent the lack of trade caused by an over saturation of dull basic Indian Restaurants. I have asked myself if I had stood my ground, I did wonder if he would try and manipulate that to be a counter racial situation. Ladies and Gentleman you are born first with gender, then and ethnicity. No one is really that special, unless their restaurant is the sole authentic Indian dining experience in NZ.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area (possibly in Wellington). Their food is well prepared and delicious. I tried the chicken sola —which is classified as a ‘starter’— and it has a full dinner’s worth of chicken, and it has a kick! The fried poppadom is so tasty and the garlic naan is GREAT. My family loves the butter chicken, especially my son who orders ‘Butter the Chicken’ off the kids menu.
The only curious thing was how three people in my party ordered butter chicken and each person’s butter chicken came out in staggered order, my wife’s, then my daughter’s, and then my son’s. It was all extremely tasty, though, so no worries.

Vegan Menu! They have a full Vegan menu to pick from. Highly recommend checking them out. City Restaurant prices but tasty food.
I tried their Corn Aloo Tikki Chaat and their Special Masala Chai. Neither were vegan, that was my choice. I really enjoyed the Chaat — savoury, sweet, tangy, and crispy! Highly recommend. It’s a small portion but makes a decent meal for $15!

Two takeaway curries with rice, over $50, so not cheap eats. Malai kofta was 4 finger sized pieces, nice creamy sauce but stingy on substance. Chicken korma was good. Unfortunately found a piece of what appears to be metal in the last bite of my meal. Pretty disturbing, will not be eating at yellow chilli again. Advise restaurant to investigate where this might have come from. If you are eating there, suggest you check food grade certificate which should be displayed.
