Had BBH and Com Tam here. First of foremost, as a Vietnamese, the Bun Bo Hue is fantastic, authentic. There’s another one on the table, let me finish it before i complete the review…

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Charlotte area – period. We come often, and drive all the way from south Charlotte to come here because it’s worth it. The food is always good, and consistent. I love their spring rolls (#1) the most of any Vietnamese restaurant in the area. It’s just a notch up. The pho is great – I really like #24, which is a good combination. The bun combos are all good, and they use good fish sauce. There’s also a good stir fry on the menu with curry and lemon grass . Also, fresh orange juice here!

Overall 2.9/10 – This dining spot’s aesthetic appeal couldn’t compensate for the subpar service and disappointing meal quality, leading to an unsatisfying experience.

Atmosphere 6.6/10: While visually appealing with unique decor and various sections, the cleanliness was just passable, and the staff’s unwelcoming demeanor detracted from the overall ambiance.

Service 3.8/10: The lack of a welcoming vibe and necessity to request basic amenities like water made the service feel inattentive and inadequate.

Fresh Rolls 1.1/10: These were poorly prepared with sticky rice paper, which is typically a sign of over-soaking or poor quality wraps, making them difficult to handle and enjoy.

Pho 2.2/10: The broth lacked depth, and the low-quality meat was inedible, significantly undermining the authenticity and enjoyment of the dish.

Value 1.2/10: The overall experience did not justify the cost, particularly with the poor service and disappointing food quality, leaving a feeling of dissatisfaction and unnecessary tipping.

Service was good. Very mom and pop with a slightly more upscale feel. 5/5

We got the fresh summer roll and the Pho Dac Biet. The summer rolls were soft with a delicious crunch of lettuce. The sauce was not as thick as some other places, but still quite delicious; sweet, salty, nutty. 5/5

The pho tasted good, not great. I felt like the more that I ate it, the more it tasted like the broth was a bit watered down. I was looking for a punch of flavor, but it fell short of my expectation. It was also a bit more on the sweeter side in my opinion. This was supposed to be the combination bowl, but I didn’t get any tendons or tripe, which was a tad disappointing. The broth had a nice color though. 3.5/5

Ambience was kinda awkward. The TV’s were on, but the volume was very low. It was quieter than I was expected. Decor was a bit more traditional but it looked fine. 4/5

I don’t know if I would make the trip out here again. I was really looking forward to trying a new pho place and was left disappointed with the pho.

I love this place! Just had a delicious lunch with family and friends and we all had wonderful food. Hadn’t been in a while and I’m kicking myself for it! My coconut curry was divine. And I got to taste hot pot and pork fried rice. Excellent! Best Vietnamese food in town! And we were able to sit and talk, enjoy our food, tea or coffee without having to shout across the table. Just lovely.

Charlotte’s best Vietnamese restaurant!
We usually get seafood noodle soup, fried egg noodles with vegetables & protein, spring rolls, and iced coffee!

I’ve never regretted my dining choice there.
The food is always great, and the owner & the staff are always nice.

Ben Thanh is a hidden gem in Matthews! The pho is incredible rich, flavorful broth, tender beef, and fresh herbs that make every bowl perfect. Portions are generous, prices fair, and the staff is welcoming. The spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee are also worth trying.

If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese comfort food, this is the spot.

The Bun Tom with beef was excellent. We weren’t as happy with the Chicken Green Curry, but the manager was kind enough to take it off the bill. The avocado smoothie was awesome for dessert. Only negative (besides the Curry) was the TV playing a stream of local ads which just seemed a bit tacky.
