What sets FOLKLORE apart from other places is that all of our Mexican dishes are made with love. Our family takes great pride in all the elements that go into our food whether it be making salsa, regional dishes, special sauces or marinades to bring out the best flavors. To them, cutting fresh limes, juicing citrus and opening banana leaves is just part of the job and a key to FOLKLORE’S success. We use artisanal recipes as an outlet to express our creativity and love for food. FOLKLORE, it is synonymous with bold flavor and we achieve this by respecting the age-old Mexican traditions.

This place is the definition of mom-and-pop—nothing fancy, just cozy, with food that hits hard at prices anyone can get behind. The tacos were excellent, and that mystery green sauce? Game-changer.
The nachos were really bland couldn’t really taste the chipotle on the chicken and it came with the smallest amount of guacamole.
The carne asada was dry and the chicken wasn’t too flavorful. Overall it was okay but don’t think I would go back. It wasn’t to my liking and taste but I’m sure some other people would enjoy it.
THERES NO PARKING. so if that’s something you look for just know it’s street parking and it’s always full
I decided to try the shrimp tacos based on Sonya’s suggestion, and they did not disappoint. Each taco was generously loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp, nestled in a soft corn tortilla and topped with fresh onions and cilantro or mixed cabbage. The side of salsa verde and aioli was the perfect complement, adding a burst of flavor to every bite. With four tacos per order, it was a satisfying and hearty meal.
The guacamole and chips were another highlight of my visit. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, perfectly paired with the crispy chips. To top off the meal, I enjoyed a refreshing hibiscus water, which was a wonderful complement to the savory tacos and guacamole.
Folklore Artisanal Taco is truly a standout spot with its fantastic food, inviting atmosphere, and exceptional service. If you’re in West Orange, NJ, make sure to stop by and treat yourself to this culinary delight!
When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and the lady asked if I was picking up. I told her my name and she grabbed my food. It came to $15.94 total. When I got in I dug in and the chips were good with the dip. The tacos were a little salty though. I did like the sauce they gave with it. All in all I had an ok experience.
What can I say? I’m a sucker for mom-and-pop restaurants that serve really good food at reasonable prices. It’s not fancy—more cozy than anything—but the tacos slapped. And that green sauce they gave me? Whatever it was, it tied everything together.
