I tend to always get the same thing at this point (grilled chicken), but I’ve tried a wider selection of their menu and have never been disappointed. I’ve had banh mi elsewhere and it never lives up to HOB, which is always fresh, never dry, and hits the spot.
The employees/owners are so kind, greeting regulars by name, always friendly, even going above and beyond and apologizing for price hikes (while still keeping prices low). I have spent so many lunches with loved ones over a banh mi from HOB, and I always feel better after going, it’s a place I hold close to my heart and recommend to everyone I can.
I love you, HOB!!
Thankfully, I live walking distance to this place. 10/10! Highly recommend with love ❤️
Beyond the food, the service is what really sets this place apart. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel like a valued customer. Chris, in particular, goes above and beyond—if you’re a regular, he greets you by name, which adds a nice personal touch that you don’t get at a lot of places.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, The HOB delivers consistent quality, great portions, and a warm atmosphere. If you love bánh mì, this spot should be at the top of your list!
Vietnamese iced coffee ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
– Portland ca phe beans
– not overly sweet
— food —
Sliced BBQ pork with pate ⭐⭐⭐✨
– not the one I meant to order.
– would get the not sliced one next time, the grilled one
Meatball ⭐⭐⭐⭐
– my partners rating was 4/5, I didn’t want to taste it though because it was sort of a mushy looking meatball
– looked super flavorful though!
• Food, hot and sandwich was very hearty
• Friendly service, guy was very nice and polite
• Prices are very affordable compared to many other
Cons:
• Parking (out of their control but be aware)
• Atmosphere, kind of dingy for some people, but I was okay with it
EDIT: Updating my review a year later to say these are STILL the best banh mi’s in town, and the gentlemen working at the counter is STILL friendly and welcoming to all his customers. Take this as your sign to come here as soon as possible, this is great food.
