Let me tell you — Dexter’s Grill tastes like a family member made your food with love.
This burger was crazy good and the fries were seasoned perfectly. No bland bites, no lag in flavor, nothing. And the customer service? On point.
Places like this deserve all the glory and my business. Don’t hesitate — this is hands down the best burger in the area. The food is so good I literally started writing this review while I was still eating.

Excellent burgers! We read the good reviews and hubby wanted to try it. Burgers are hand pressed and made to order, grilled buns. Single burger is plenty. I was surprised at how good they were. Friendly staff too. Our granddaughter enjoyed it too.

Let me start by saying- the customer service was WONDERFUL. The man at the register was really a joy.
Unfortunately the food itself left a lot to be desired. The wings were HARD. The plain wings lacked flavor. The lemon pepper wings were less hard but the flavor was very much lemon and pepper, all in the sauce. I don’t think the chicken itself was seasoned.
The chili cheese burger was also pretty bland. Not TERRIBLE but nothing worth raving over. The mushroom burger was a little better at least.
I’m rooting for this place but they just need to do something different with their recipes.

It was my first time here and everything was really good. My daughter recommended it for us to stop and have lunch. She has been many times and the food is always very good. They have great specials and the staff were very kind. The women’s bathroom and restaurant were also very clean. I will definitely come here again.

The burger and fries were delicious, and enough food for my husband and I to share! Prices are decent and servings are generous. Staff was helpful. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. The restaurant is inside a gas station, so I think a lot of people don’t even know it’s there. I didn’t, but I will be going back to get my burger on!

I’ve driven past Dexter’s many times but I didn’t stop in until today. Once I finished my meal and got in my car, I wondered to myself why the hell I waited so long. I can’t rave enough about the Baby Jay’s Bacon Burger combo, which came with fries and my choice of drink – for $10.25. Let me tell you, this meal was well worth every penny. The burger was cooked while I waited, the toppings were fresh and plentiful, and I got a lot of hot, seasoned fries that paired perfectly with the burger. The place was clean, it wasn’t loud inside, and there was just enough old school R&B playing to add to the experience. The gentleman who took my order and Dexter, the owner, were both very pleasant and welcoming. I’ll go back again and try their chicken wings or their Wednesday-only soul food special. If you think you have to go to a bar to get a decent-tasting burger, you’ve thought wrong. Dexter’s is the real deal.

First off this was the best burger I have ate in years. The crazy Randy 3 patties a pound of meat, lettuce, pickles, red onion, tomato, large fries made fresh to order. Fountain drinks or Faygo A&W Vernors. Great prices and value, friendly service. Check this place out. Five Guys, Culver’s and all the others have nothing on this place. We have found the best burger spot downriver. I 75- Northline rd. Southgate in the Citgo parking lot. Show them some Love.

Tried the Baby Jay’s Bacon Cheeseburger. Overall, it was okay. The burger patty was a bit dry for my taste. It seemed like an 85/15 beef mix, which just didn’t hit quite right. Unlike some other reviews I’ve read, I actually found the patty under-seasoned. Not terrible, just kind of bland.
The bacon was spot-on. Two slices, cooked well, and just enough to add flavor without overpowering the burger. Fries were a mixed bag. Some were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, while others were undercooked but still edible.
Some other reviews mention wilted lettuce. Honestly, it’s tough to get a fresh-off-the-grill burger to the table, still hot, without a little wilt. What I had was minimal and well within the bounds of acceptable. If you’re expecting a cold patty on crisp lettuce, you can do that at home.
There’s a lot of promise here. While it’s not going to replace my go-to burger spot, I’d consider giving it another shot down the road.
Service was excellent. Clear, friendly, and efficient. No complaints there. The atmosphere is fine. Nothing particularly memorable, but nothing off-putting either. Overall, not a bad experience, just not a standout.

I had been reading reviews about Dexter’s on the Downriver and Friends Facebook page since the restaurant opened, but didn’t make it in until last Thursday. I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long. My parents and I stopped in to have burgers and fries for lunch. They were as delicious as everyone had said. They were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The person who took our order was very kind and friendly. I wanted to ask him to be my friend. Cheeseburgers are my favorite, but I love wings, too, so I would like to come back and try those someday. Dexter’s Grill is a great addition to the Downriver community.
