Located in one of Erie’s historic buildings, Julius is a fantastic addition to the fine dining checklist. My wife and I were married in the Maennerchor Club years before Mr. Reyes began offering this exquisite Mexican experience. We were excited to return and reminisce about the old style structure and historic experience we had during our wedding planning stages. Along with a handful of both small and large plates, Julio Reyes’ dinner specials will keep your tastebuds entertained and provides a reason to return often. Don’t let it fool you though, a small plate is definitely more than an appetizer and very sharable. A table of four could easily order them all and share for a great meal! This visit we enjoyed Julio’s take on tenderloin, one with a tomatillo and chili pepper salsa, the other with a peanut sesame Adobe sauce. Having the Tostadillas before this meal made it tough to finish. Not to mention all meals are served with a simple cup of homemade soup. If you have enough room, you might try the Flan or Plantains for a sweet treat. Mr. Reyes personally greeted and served us. Talk about a man who takes pride in what he’s doing and wants to bring artistic cuisine back to the heart of Erie. Fantastic on all levels! Including the Mojito, probably the best I’ve tasted- freshest ingredients and finest quality.

Amazing place! it has delicious Mexican gourmet food! The place is gorgeous, the service is very friendly and the owner is very nice. We had a great dinner celebration, we totally recommend it and we are coming back soon. You can appreciate the real Mexican food in there as if you were in a real México city. Also, the drinks are very good, don’t forget to try the drinks with Mezcal!

I enjoyed a quiet get together with friends at Julius’s a couple weeks ago. It’s was a delightful experience. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Very nice, leisurely, Mothers day brunch. A little pricey for sure, but the beautifully played, live Spanish guitar music that was being played, more than made up for any it.
Enjoyed the different courses that were served. Loved the atmosphere!

Julius is a gem in Erie. Do not miss a chance for a meal here. The cuisine is central and southern Mexican. Oaxacan mole sauce, but with a different twist. We each had versions. Sherry’s was dark and served over a beautifully baked salmon. It was more of what we expected from a mole and really good. I had a daily special which was pork tenderloin with a green mole sauce. Cilantro and seasonal peppers gave it a different look. We had shrimp appetizers, served in a garlic butter/oil, but the oil was not overwhelming, allowing the shrimp to come through with the seasonings. We tried both house margaritas, sharing of course, and enjoyed them. They differed only in the tequila, and one was slightly more sour. Loved the food and the evening.

We had brunch today (prix fixe menu) and it was the best we’ve had in Erie. Spectacular food in taste and quality. The service was friendly, attentive, and yet not overbearing. Just right. The atmosphere is unique – with much of the grand old Mannerchor still in evidence. Yet it didn’t feel at all musty or faded. It’s a piece of preserved history in all its glory and shame. (The bar still has the German phrase “Ladies are not served at the counter.” But a welcome sign has replaced the word not.) If you’re looking for a first class brunch in Erie in Mexico City style, look no further. Julius is a gem in the Gem City!

I rented the Ballroom for a gala
affair. Julio could not have been more helpful. He was so easy & professional, the food was attractively set up & was delicious! I HIGHLY RECOMMED JULIUS at Maennerchor Plaza as a fabulous venue for any Event! We went for dinner on several occasions, and always left satisfied. Julio offers Jazz in the Pub on Fri & Sat nights with $10 small plates! This is a relaxing way to spend an evening!

Enjoyed the 5 course Sunday brunch with some friends. It was absolutely amazing. Each course was better than the previous one. The brunch included a mixed drink that was delicious. The owner came out and talked to us throughout. Julio was so kind and friendly. Definitely will be going back soon

Thought to give this place a try mainly due to the jazz quartet that was playing there…
Very nice historic building, which is being well-maintained
Not much of a menu , portions are very small.
Once the server provided the order, she never check to see how the meal was, or if needed another drink …
I would go there again and just have drinks and listen to the music, but definitely not to order a dinner

Julio is an amazing owner. He spends time to get to know each patron and then remembers you on your next visit. His food is delicious and authentic and a lot of care and time goes into what is made. You will not find a taco here, but if that is what you want go to a more Americanized casual fast food restaurant.
