Local American eats dished in historic digs where diners are prompted to don provided playful garb.

My husband and I went as first timers during Happy Hour. It was just us, but it’s got a great vibe and the bartender/server Colleen (sp?) was very personable and friendly! We actually talked to her a lot while we were there! Tapas are available during HH and I got an Old Fashioned which I don’t normally order but it was delicious. We ordered the bread and butter which was very herby and flavorful, grilled criss-cross. Highly recommend. For dinner I had the brisket. So delicious. We will definitely go back!! Also you get a view of the water which always makes me happy 🙂

This is
A very unique restaurant with old school elegance and a wonderful atmosphere right on the waterfront with old record Albums for the backing of the menu.
And out of this world good food.
Love the Ajax cafe. The restaurant had just opened when I took these photos.
Normally the place is packed with people.

I enjoyed a lovely bike ride here. It wasn’t too busy when I arrived and I was able to get a seat without a reservation. I’m so glad they have vegan options. I enjoyed a glass of red wine and some vegan grilled mushroom burritos with a lovely crusty bread starter. The food was amazing, I thought I was going to ask for a to go box – but nope I finished it all. The server was busy but took care of me in a timely manner. The food came quickly and was hot. I’d definitely eat here again. The view of the inlet was lovely. I enjoyed a walk on the pier before biking back. I didn’t sample desert because I was so full, but the desert menu had some yummy options.
It sounded like 80s rock was playing but at just the right volume to still enjoy a conversation. The menus are in vinyl record and CD covers, very interesting. The decorations are eclectic. I loved that the china and silverware go together but don’t match.

We ordered the mixed green and apple salads along with the brisket and steak. The steak was perfectly cooked. Atmosphere was eclectic with nice oldies playing in the background. Would recommend a stop if you’re near Port Hadlock or on your way to Port Townsend. They are open Thursday through Sunday for dinner only.

We decided to kickoff Mother’s Day weekend with our first visit to the Ajax cafe. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there. Patrick warmly welcomed us and we were seated immediately. We were greeted at our table an eclectic selection of dish ware, menus inside classic record albums and, of course, Jim. We shared a clam chowder which the kitchen kindly split for us and it was very flavorful. I had the ribs and my wife had the Spanish seafood stew. We both loved our dinners especially the garlic mashed potatoes. Nina was our server and her great smile, fun attitude and attentive service made for a lovely dinner.

Dining at this restaurant is a total experience – Spanish Stew & Baby Back Ribs were exceptional in taste and condiments; cafe decor was eclectic; service was excellent (considering Gina was the only staff on duty – she handled the check-in, seating the guests, taking the orders, serving the orders, taking away the dishes, bringing the check; and there were about 10 tables that evening!)
The other diners were mixed; some who were dressed for the occasion, regulars who had their favorites, groups of family or friends.

My wife and myself along with another couple went to dinner for New Year’s Eve last night. We hadn’t been there for quite a few years and thought we’d try it again. The waitress was very friendly and all started off well. I ordered the Ribs as I had thought them to be very good years ago. They weren’t anything like I had rememberer them to be and the mashed potatoes that were underneath them were cold . The ribs were the most overpriced and worst I have ever had anywhere. Without going into details nobody else was very impressed with what they had ordered either. The bill for my wife and I came to $96.08, I gave the waiter $120 , six twenty’s and although I wasn’t happy with the meal it was New Year’s Eve and she wasn’t the chef. I told her I didn’t need any change back she brought me a receipt. When I got home I looked at it and instead of it reflecting the amount I gave, it showed I gave $100 and there was $3.91 change instead of $23.91 that they got for the tip . A place we won’t be going again

This place has a great, fun, relaxed and quirky atmosphere. There is an assortment of hats on the wall, quirky artwork, bobbles hanging from the ceiling, and the menus are on old record album jackets. It is cozy and quaint, but has upscale food options.
Our last visit was 11 years ago since we don’t live in the area. We decided we had to try to return to see if it was still as good as our last visit. It was not. It was better! We had a crab cake special appetizer. I had the ahi tuna and my dining partner had the ribs. It is all served on the plate to impress, but the portions are still significant.

A delightful mix of fun and light atmosphere with delicious food. We had the crabcakes which was all, real local crab – such a rarity! The Kauthman cocktail, a riff of an old fashion, was also delicious. We were fortunate enough to be served by one of the owners (Jay I think?), and his mid-west roots really came out in his hospitality and warmth. We heard theyre opening a pergola and will definitely be back!
