While the restaurant’s name conjures images of vibrant, authentic Mexican cuisine, the reality was a rather bland and uninspired affair.
The ambiance was…fine. Standard booths, generic Mexican-themed decor, and music that seemed to be playing from a ‘Mexican Fiesta Hits’ playlist on repeat. Nothing offensive, but nothing memorable either.
As for the food, it was a masterclass in mediocrity. The salsa tasted suspiciously like it came from a jar, the guacamole was pale and lacked any real avocado flavor, and the ‘carne asada’ was a good quality cut but lacking flavor. My enchiladas, swimming in a watery, flavorless chicken/mole sauce, and were equally disappointing. It seemed as though the kitchen had opted for the safest, most watered-down versions of classic dishes, presumably to cater to the least adventurous palates.
The service was adequate. Our server was polite enough.
If you’re looking for a quick, inoffensive meal and have absolutely no expectations of authentic Mexican flavors, El Taco Grande might suffice. However, if you’re craving the vibrant, complex flavors of real Mexican cuisine, you’d be better served looking elsewhere. This restaurant is a testament to the fact that you can’t just slap a sombrero on something and call it Mexican.”

Febrero 3, 2024 Surfsontrees and I walked to El Taco Grande for the first time to enjoy a rewarding meal ️ after a good exercise.
As soon as you enter there is a cool tequila bar where you will meet with your waiter to guide you to your seat into their beautiful art and culture inspired atmosphere. I especially fell in love with their chairs because each one was different.
The food was fire fuego delicious major appreciation to the chef who created two massive burritos which definitely gave us a lot for left overs. The diablo burrito hawt hawt hawt but dang great meal.
The horchata was so rich and milky along with a dash of cinnamon. Along with engulfing in their chips and salsa. I loved every bite. ️ If your in the area schedule a meal for your own personal experience at this cool place. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. Thank you so much.

Highly recommend going to the comedy vault on a Friday or Saturday for an early show and then as soon as it’s done heading over to this neat little outdoor below ground level Mexican restaurant. Great little hidden spot. Food is so good!!

I used to do pest control, so maybe I’m just sensitive to some things. But this restaurant has a funky smell that I commonly found in restaurants that had some kind of plumbing/sanitary issues. It really hindered my experience there.
