This was my first time visiting. We ordered the Birra Quesadilla and the Molcajete. Both were very good. The Birra had some spice to it and all of the meat was tender and juicy

Big portions for a decent price BUT food wasn’t tasty or authentic Mexican food. Cheese on the nachos tasted like plastic. Plantains weren’t so tasty either. Our server was nice tho. I’m not coming back nor recommend this place to my friends.

Freshly made chips, strong drinks, fresh ingredients all around. The tacos were phenomenal and they have plenty of different tacos to pick from. My wife loved her steak fajitas and the restaurant was clean. Definitely would come back and glad to find a place to eat on the eastern shore besides Italian and seafood.

My hubby and I take our daughter at least 3 times a month and we always have the best service and food. The waitresses start to recognize you and come over to say hi. I wish I remembered the name of the lady who always helps us, but last night we had Mayra who was wonderful as well. Our food is ALWAYS out in 10 minutes or less. ALWAYS. Thanks el Jefe we love you!

We were pretty disappointed with our visit here. I ordered the barbacoa with a mango habanero salad. The salad was sad (see picture) and the barbacoa was essentially a pot roast with some brown gravy. My wife ordered steak tacos and received chicken instead. Very underwhelmed and will likely not be returning.
Side comment; they need to do something about the lighting in the building. The ceiling lights are separate from the fans so it gives off a strobe effect.

I’ll be honest, a couple of years ago, I wasn’t too crazy about the food here, but the turn around has been very pleasant. Everything is absolutely delicious now. You can’t go wrong with the tacos (especially the Birria) or wings. My girl Jess makes the best drinks. Words can’t express how much I love her.

Overall great! Excellent service and great prices. Salsa needs a little spicing up, but some Cholula helped out fine. Chips were warm and very crisp. Pulled chicken burrito had very soft and tasty chicken. Beans were more soupy than I’m used to but still good flavor. Rice is fluffy and excellent taste! The quesadila had very tasty grilled steak and they didn’t blink an eye when my wife asked for grilled shrimp as well. Margaritas are definitely made for a drinking crowd… Super strong! If you want a tasty drink, maybe get something else. But if you’re looking to be set for the day, get one! Overall was very good, we’ll be back!

Good and bad things. The enchiladas were delicious. The fajitas were okay, can’t say great. However, we were surprised by the fast service (from the kitchen crew). The food came out very quick. We were not pleased with the waitress. She was not real friendly. We could come back if front line staff is more friendly and kind, but not on my first options to eat right now.

El Jefe, more like El Basura (the trash). I hate to leave a review like this but El Jefe has been a disappointment for 9 years. We went there when they opened, a few years later, a few years after that, and tonight. Maybe it is just me, BUT every time I go there it’s mediocre at best and that’s being kind. They must be doing something right because they are always busy, but for the life of me I can’t figure out what. First the bartender was nice, but why is there one bartender working alone on a Saturday night? She was getting drinks, chips and salsa, and taking orders alone when there are about 50 other employees doing nothing. On to the food. The wings were swimming in grease and one had feathers still on it. The quesadilla had plenty of beef which was nice, but it tased like how a retirement home smells. Now for possibly the worst part of the experience, the “strawberry daiquiri”. Firstly, if you sell a $11.00 daiquiri it should consist of more that rail rum, CHEAP daiquiri mix, and whipped cream….. I have never been offended by a drink until tonight. I’m just disgusted by everything that is El Jefe. I will chalk this $60.00 experience up to lessoned learned, never again.

Almost every Tuesday we visit for dinner and it’s the best Mexican food in town. It’s not anything over the top, just a simple tradition menu and for a very fair price. Usually it’s easy to get a table with no wait and the staff is very friendly and kind. They are quick to get your orders in and the food comes out even faster. The food is always well seasoned and tasteful though sometimes the steak or chicken comes out very well done. I usually don’t recommend them and suggest the pork, shrimp and fish. They have always been cooked right, especially the pork, it’s a favorite of mine. The birria tacos are very good also and highly recommended when they are available. Anyone looking for a drink with a punch the house margaritas will do it. They don’t hold back so they can be a bit rough to drink but if you’re looking for a good kick for cheap that’s the best thing to get outside of a straight shot of tequila . If you go in on certain days they are on sale for only $3.50 each, that’s a fantastic deal. Outside of typical dine in and bar aspects they hold all kinds of fun events for adults and kids from live music nights to costume parties to Easter egg painting. There’s always something going on for everyone at El Jefe making it one of my favorite places to goto in town.
