Gluten free including salad as it was cross contaminated. I ended up with a baked potato. The tea I ordered was a powdered mixture and not homemade. It wasn’t sweet tea it was lemon flavored. My partner enjoyed his dinner and I would have if there were gluten free options .the prices for what you got were amazing.
The food came out super fast and the waitresses were super kind, as well! If my family ever passes through Wiscasset again, we’ll be back.
Service decent
Atmosphere like funky old barn stuff. Country music.
All n all 3 stars
This is BY FAR one of my favorite restaurants across ME/NH. The portions are great, the food is ALWAYS hot and perfectly cooked. I drive all over the state, and my favorite destination is down east simply because I get to stop by Barnhouse for lunch.
The service? Always excellent. My drink is never empty and I am always in/out promptly. I never feel like I have to search out my waitress.
Edit: my most recent visit impressed. I sat down at 12:22pm. I was served a delicious meal by 12:35pm. I paid at 12:49. THAT’S service. Thank you Mandy!
Food was OK. I had a burrito that was decent, chicken was a bit overcooked and dried out but still decent overall. The pineapple was delicious on it. The whole belly clams were not cooked and had white stuff coming out so you know they are raw, they took them back no issue and said they were disgusting so not sure why they would even serve that. Burger was decent too. Fried mushrooms were over cooked. Onion rings were too and cold so figure that one out if they are busy
Service was not friendly and seems like more of a locals place and that’s the ones that get better Service.
I wouldn’t go back
Atmosphere is chill, great staff and delicious food!
My husband and I have come here twice now and have not been disappointed.
We started off with the fried mushrooms which were on spot! The breading did not fall off nor was it too thick. The mushroom was not at all mushy, a nice delicious texture.
We split the haddock wrap which was huge! You are definitely getting a bang for your buck here. The fish was cooked well and the wrap had just enough sauce that it did not make anything soggy.
We will be back for sure!
I took my daughters today. The atmosphere is so relaxed. This is the first time in a long time I have left a restaurant feeling so completley satisfied from the food I ate. The Taco salad shell alone is to die for. I haven’t eaten a shell like that since I was a teenager and visited Portland. My daughter loves ground beef tacos. Nobody sells ground beef tacos but Barnhouse. This is the first time in Maine that she has devoured a taco & a half out in public. She RAVED about the tacos. I wish I was better with words at describing food. All I can say is my stomach was satisfied & my heart was happy. I even asked to speak with the owner to compliment them on their menu. I wish the Barnhouse was closer to home. Maybe it’s better that it’s not because I’d be broke all the time. Hopefully these photos speak better than my words.
Our waitress was fantastic!!! The food was delicious!! The French fries and onion rings portions were large & tasted amazing. I couldn’t get enough of them. Especially the French fries. I thought the portion of the ribs would be a little larger. They were melt off the bone good but a little to much BBQ sauce for my own taste. I would have loved more cole slaw. It was served in a very small metal condiment bowl. My mom enjoyed the steak & cheese. Her only complaint was that some of the steak was burnt. I would definitely visit this restaurant again. Even for the French fries alone.
