Built inside a 1929 mansion that presumably once was financed by Al Capone, the restaurant serves a menu of traditional gourmet dishes including Brie en Croute, Blackened Salmon Oscar and Black Thai Duck. The mansion that houses the restaurant was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and still features the original escape hatches and underground tunnels that were used by Capone to transfer liquor during the Prohibition Era. In 2001, High Point received the Best Gourmet Meal in Tennessee award from Tennessee magazine.
Historic circa-1929 mansion with Al Capone history is a quaint setting for gourmet American plates.

Don’t go here for the food. We eat out A LOT and travel all over the south. We we underwhelmed with everything. The rolls were hard and difficult to chew. The ribeye was a tad overdone, maybe because it was pretty thin? The baked potato and salad were okay. They let my picky husband order fried chicken tenders, which weren’t on the menu and we thought that was great. The tenders were juicy but didn’t have much flavor. I did think the drinks were pretty good. Overall we thought it was a cute little place to experience once but for the price the food should knock purple socks off. You are paying almost double here for the ambiance only in my opinion. There was a nice waitress that caught us dancing after we ate and took some pictures for us. We did not get the name of our waitress because she didn’t give it to us. We won’t be back because of the food and prices but glad we got to try it!

I had read about Highpoint in a magazine. I like the concept. It was fine dining with a dress up atmosphere in an old mansion.
I made reservations months ago. That was an easy process, but you have to call. There are no confirmations from the first phone call until you show up for your meal. please make sure you note the time and date of your reservation. We had so it was no problem just making a note.
It was a cold rainy night when we showed up. I was dressed in a fine dress and my husband in a suit. we were definitely overdressed. Per the newspaper or magazine article. It indicated that that was the preferred dress. Per their website, it indicated they preferred dressy attire. Most of the gentlemen were in jeans and cowboy boots. I think I was the only woman in dress.
The food was very good. The service was nice. Our server had a little bit of spunk to her, which was cute.
The house, which belonged to Al Capone’s mistress, was decorated very nice for the holidays. We had a cute table for two by the windows. It was a very romantic setting.
If you’re in the area or want an overnight escape, I would definitely eat here.

Food was great. Service was good however expected more of a experience I guess. Waitress didn’t have any enthusiasm personality. Rolls were awesome, steak shrimp meal awesome, Alfredo good but nothing outstanding good size portion, salads goods and good size portion for being side w meal and lobster bisque soups was good.

We visited High Point recently to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. We had a dinner reservation. Upon arriving, they seated us promptly. The old restaurant is large with many dining rooms. 2 floors of dining rooms. It’s a pretty campus with lots of trees & outdoor lighting. There’s a large lit garden area with patio seating-enough for groups even. Our service was impeccable. Excellent! There are lots of original menus choices. We each enjoyed salads, Halibut, with a side. We shared Crème Brûlée for dessert. Our dinner was delicious. It was a wonderful evening. Excellent experience all the way around!! We look forward to going again.

I have been dining at High Point for at least 15 years. At one point it was considered an upscale fine dining experience, but not any more, it has changed.
On our recent visit, the food was underwhelming at best – dishes that once felt carefully crafted now tasted rushed, cold and mediocre. Presentation lacked attention to detail that it was once known for.
Even more disappointing was the service. What was once polished and attentive felt inattentive and disorganized. Simple requests were overlooked, timing was off, and there was little if any warmth or professionalism that used to define the establishment. Our waitress knew nothing about the history of the home, was short, forgot drinks, had an attituded and was clearly indifferent to our dining experience, yet still expected a 20% tip.
It’s hard to watch a restaurant with so much history and potential lose its standard. I really hope that management revisits the details that once made this place exceptional. A lot of people drive from far away expecting the “upscale” experience this place was once know for – but the reality no longer lives up to that reputation.

We visited High Point for my birthday. This was our first time. We had heard from friends how great it was. I had made reservations and they suggested flowers for the table. That was a beautiful surprise. The atmosphere was great and the service was great. However, the food was good but definitely not worth the cost. The fried green tomatoes were ok but not the BEST we’ve had. The bread was wonderful though. The salads were fabulous! I had the winter pear with honey vinaigrette and J had the spring mix with blackberry vinaigrette. I had the Steak with Gorgonzola Alfredo. It was good. J had the black and bruised filet with steak truffles. The steak was too done and the fries were nothing special. If we go back we’ll try something different. The atmosphere is worth the visit.

This is a very unique place and the food was amazing.
We had a variety of food ranging from Steak, Salmon to the Shrimp Alfredo.
The food was tasty and wished I’d have had room for dessert but just wasn’t able to.

Not just the food, service, or atmosphere, but the history of this old residence. I almost OD’ed on the food. The lobster bisque started it off. Then the blackberry duck and fried Brussels sprouts finished it. Done! They serve a gracious plenty. I couldn’t eat it all. Wow, I highly recommend this restaurant. If you don’t eat here, you are completely missing out!

Thats the only reason we come and what makes it amazing they down play that now! But thats what makes the experience fun!! Yes he was a gangster but hes gone now so have fun and up play that!! Thats the only reason we started coming have someone dressed as him even make it a more fun experience that was and the food has kinda lost its luster…we were disappointed this time its lost its spark

What a unique experience at High Point Restaurant, housed in what was once Al Capone’s residence! We chose it for a special occasion, hoping for great steak, and we weren’t disappointed. The true star of the evening, however, was the seared tuna special. It’s not on their regular menu, but it absolutely should be – it was hands-down the best dish we ordered, even surpassing the steak. The innovative use of dehydrated ginger (instead of traditional pickled) and incredibly fresh wasabi elevated it to another level. We also enjoyed the High Point Oscar and Steak & Shrimp; both were perfectly cooked, and the béarnaise sauce beautifully complemented the crab and steak. Their side portions are incredibly generous – prepare for a mountain of delicious asparagus!
