Met a friend for lunch at Charley Chesapeake Chophouse at Rio. We started with the cheddar bay biscuits – a little too savory and salty for us, but the poppyseed honey butter was excellent and definitely saved the bite!

I went with the lunch combo (pick 2) – chose the single smash burger and rigatoni alla vodka. The burger had a great sear and was juicy and the house-made pasta had a nice chew with a creamy vodka sauce that had the perfect kick. At $14.95, this combo is a great value and a smart way to sample more than one dish – I’d come back for lunch to try other items.

My friend ordered the fried catfish and shrimp basket with fries, and it was a solid choice. Both the fish and shrimp were fresh, crispy, and cooked just right without drying out. The fries had that classic boardwalk-style flavor – add some Old Bay on the table for some nostalgia.

Dessert was mixed. We got the crème brûlée, which was rustic but nice with a crackly top and smooth custard. The bread pudding, however, was on the dense and dry side and could’ve used a traditional crème anglaise. Instead it came with strawberry sauce and white chocolate ice cream, but the pudding wasn’t warm enough to melt the ice cream.

Service was friendly, and the atmosphere matched the Rio vibe – casual yet polished with a fun, boardwalk-inspired diner feel inside. A few small tweaks would elevate the experience, but I’d still return to explore more of the menu. Bonus points for the salt water taffy at the end instead of mints!

Ask for David! Came here with our kids for an early dinner. We got a great booth and our server David was super helpful and attentive. He made wonderful menu recommendations and kept everything coming smoothly. Probably the best date night with kids we’ve ever had. Food was excellent, steak was cooked perfectly, everything was delicious. Got here early enough to take advantage of the happy hour and stayed for regular service. Will definitely be back soon!

Overall, the food was very mid, very disappointing. The only standout was the buttermilk smashed potatoes. Service was nice.

Crab dip was tiny for $19… unbelievable how small it was. Steak frites tasted like salty boiled beef, no browned/grilled flavor, no pepper. The sauce was weird too. Combo basket catfish had watery flesh and the shrimp was mushy, not snappy at all.

I would rather spend my money at yardhouse or cheesecake factory.

Likely not coming back.

We were regulars at the Charley Prime Food before it become Charley Chesapeake Chophouse and we loved the original decor and their food, burgers and beer selection.
With the change, they stripped the unique design keeping the ceiling that doesn’t match the new one at all, and their burger… the burger’s meat is the size for the slider but in the regular burger’s bun. The taste of the meat is different as well, looks as they changed the supplier or the change in the cooking method so the trick. The fries is different as well.
The beer selection is somewhat mediocre. Though the salmon salad is ok and I liked the Muscat Spritz.

I am not sure if we will be coming back… sorry!! The service was great, as always.

Stopped by for dinner with friends on a Friday night. We chose this restaurant because we could sit outside and listen to the Lakefront Live Summer Concert (Stringtown Band). Great food, great service and we really enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend that you make a reservation.

For an appetizer we had the Burrata, Prosciutto and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta. It was really tasty, and great to have on a summer night. This was followed by shrimp cocktail (the cocktail sauce will clear out your sinuses!) and side Caesar salads. For our main course, we had the rigatoni à la vodka, Chuck’s grilled chicken cob salad and coconut curry mussels. The sauce on the mussels was outstanding, and we ordered extra grilled bread to make sure it did not go to waste. For dessert we had the crème brûlée and a chocolate molten lava cake. Our wine selection was the Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall, an outstanding meal.

Our server was Didier. Very engaging and professional. Top-notch service.

While not on this trip, we will have to come back and try the steaks!

I dined here for a work even, the food was superb! The service was also pretty good. We were able to reserve a large table in the outer area (it is heated by large outdoor space heaters). Overall a very good experience. The brownie sunday was a highlight as well as the pork rice appetizer. I only took picture of the main course, steak.

-Love the outdoor seating option right by the lake.
-Servers were very attentive.
-Have happy hour til 6pm during the week and all day Mondays.
-the happy hour pork & crispy rice appetizer was the best! Spiced shrimp very good too! The burger is just average. They need a special sauce or toppings to make it unique or just skip it.

I recently returned to what is now Charley Chesapeake Chop House & Bar for the final day of Restaurant Week, having not been back since their rebrand from Charley Prime Foods. I was excited to explore their revamped menu, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

I opted for the three-course Restaurant Week menu, and each dish was a hit. The star was the crab cake entrée. So many crab cakes out there rely on filler, but theirs was pure lump crab; rich, flavorful, and refreshingly all meat. Dessert capped it all off perfectly.

One of my favorite cocktails from their previous menu was no longer listed, but when I asked, they happily made it for me.

Finally, a huge shoutout to our server David, who delivered impeccable five-star service. He was very attentive, accommodating, and kind. All in all, I left extremely happy with both the food and the experience.

My boyfriend and I stopped into Charley Prime Food for the first time. We got a reservation, and I would recommend that as the restaurant is small. We sat in the Florida room (their covered patio). There were fans blowing so it was comfortable even during the July summer heat. We visited on a Tuesday when a dance class was happening on the boardwalk outside. It was busy and you could hear the music, but it wasn’t overly loud. We started with the five spice pork shoulder and crispy rice. It was delicious and came with 4 stacks of crispy rice topped with the pork and a slice of jalapeño. Charley offers a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks which was nice to see. For dinner I got the rainbow trout and my boyfriend got the pork steak. We both enjoyed our meals. I thought the rainbow trout was a little dry on top, but the sauce helped to balance that out. We will definitely be back.

It was good. Definitely make a reservation. I got lucky to sit at the bar. Service was quick. Food was good. Got the French onion soup and the squid ink pasta. I’d go back to try some other menu items. Super pretty outside.
