This was a really cool bar & grill. The vibe was nice and artsy. Unfortunately the food was not great. We ordered the mozzarella triangles and they tasted like they were fried in old oil. I couldn’t eat them. Hubby got the Reuben and it was so so. He gave it a 3.5. I had the burger and it was ok. It was cooked in a flat top and some people like that sorta thing. I prefer the grilled with a smoke flavor. It was a little bland for my taste. We didn’t have anything from the bar but it looks like they have a good selection of beer if you like beer.

It is of no small feat that I offer 5 stars to a restaurant as I have high expectations of the food I eat, so when I say that Dain’s Place is among my favorite places to eat in Durham I do not want you to take the review lightly.

I have been going to Dain’s place for well over 20 years at this point in my life, and while I fully admit that at first glance it just looks like your average run of the mill sports bar and pub, it will surprise you.

The service is outstanding, barkeeps keep your glasses full (as best they can on a busy night), and make sure your needs are met if sitting at a table.

The food… no frills… simple… but amazingly executed… their Angus burger is so good… good enough to make sure I stop through every time I come to town. This is not to mention their Tots, not sure how they managed to get something so simple to taste so good, but WOW, I highly recommend adding them as your side.

The atmosphere is good too, and the only thing I may have a gripe about… its small, little seating… game days/nights, be sure to get there early if you want a seat. It can get loud during games, but that’s to be expected, otherwise its a pretty chill place the owner/manager of the place is a super cool guy.

Overall, I have nothing but high praises… they’ve obviously found the right combination early on and have managed to keep it the same for a couple decades thus far. Keep up the good work folks!

Great atmosphere. Excellent food. Mozzarella triangles a must. Burger was juicy and delicious. Fried bologna sandwich very thick and tasty.

My favorite burger joint in Durham. The burgers are just amazing. The “Fly Eagle Fly” cheese steak is appropriately named and is on point. Make sure to get it with Wiz for authenticity.

Quintessential dive bar….it is absolutely fantastic. This is a must visit spot. The service was phenomenal, the drinks were absolutely delicious and the mozzarella triangles were legit to die for. Gender neutral bathrooms labeled pee box 1 and 2! Love it! I will definitely be back!

Grabbed a dinner here with my friend
The place reminds me of a nice bar
Service was really good. The lady who took care of us was very attentive
The food however was a let down
The chicken sandwich according to my friend was just ok
I didn’t like my beef burger and didn’t want to eat the patty
The burger sides aka the mushroom and bacon were good
The star of the meal was the delicious fries
The mozzarella triangles , tasty but inconsistent.some filled some empty
Overall may come back for fries but not really for the rest ,maybe a drink
They comped me a bit for my burger but it wasn’t the taste for me.

Everything was great except the price. It was my first visit there. I would become a regular if this place wasn’t so expensive. A “very good” Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms $20.25. That’s ridiculous!
The fries were good, but I’m not a fan of the thin fries. Overall, a great place, especially if money isn’t an issue.

It’s a cool bar and grill in 9th Street in Durham. It’s not a huge place. The service was great. I assume you just try to find a seat as it’s a bit smaller of an establishment. Some pretty good bar type foods are offered. All the food we tried was pretty good. Big selection of bottles and can beer. Only a couple of draft selections and a full bar..

Mozz sticks came out burnt. Burger with LTO and fries with one beer for $39. Cool place, but crazy pricing for those items. Only downfall of the establishment.

Overall cool spot. Burger was definitely good, but it’s annoying to pay extra for fries and should be illegal to charge extra for cheese. Enjoyed going once but probably not returning for 20 dollar hamburger and fries
