Went to Avvio for a weekday dinner, my husband and I absolutely loved it! This is a restaurant that has been built with love and intention. The Aperol Spritzes were HUGE and so tasty, also cheap for Chicago at $13 each. They bring out a warm, fresh loaf of bread to start your meal. It’s a personal touch that makes the homemade aspect of the place come to life. The pasta was absolutely delicious and definitely homemade.
Our server and all of the employees were kind and courteous. We will definitely be back for their Happy Hour deals!!

While it’s disappointing they don’t do complimentary pizza bread for the table anymore, the food here is AMAZING. It’s my favorite Italian in the entire city.

Prices are very reasonable and service is top notch. Have been coming consistently since they opened 6ish years ago and love it!

One of my favorite restaurants. Everything is delicious and consistently cooked to perfection. I love the Dover Sole with the yummy butter almondine sauce. Service is excellent! The staff is friendly and attentive. I’m a long time Sabitino’s customer. When they first opened pretty much everything was same, complementary pizza bread soup and salad with the meal. But times are tough for us all and unfortunately no more pizza bread and now choice of soup or salad. I still love the restaurant and I highly recommend.

My family and I went here for the first time on Mother’s Day weekend. Our female server was amazing and the male host was very accommodating. After being regulars at Sabatinos, a lot of the food was similar but definitely not even close.
I had the stuffed crab ravioli in vodka sauce (the chefs special). It was not good at all. I thought it would have been fresh crab but definitely not it. We noticed the female hostess knock down a water glass, pick it up and put it back on the table. Luckily the waitstaff noticed and replaced the glass. But just gross! Overall, it was nice having the family together just wish our experience could have been better.

This was my childhood pizza place and now such a ambient Italian charming and romantic new neighborhood place. The oysters were amazing, the pasta and the fun beverages. All by candlelight and a guitar player. I can’t wait to go back again.

It’s an OK restaurant, if I had to summarize it I would say mediocre food, OK atmosphere and very poor service. Don’t know if it’s lack of training or their inability to handle busier times, but we waited 40 minutes to be seated after having a reservation, then another 40 until we were brought menus. And frankly the worst part was not the waiting, but how they handled it – at no point anyone apologized. It’s the little things, but it really shows. There was even more that showed lack of competency in their service, but don’t want to go into details.
As I said – food is just OK, definitely not worth the higher price mark. It’s a typical Italian/American kitchen, nothing impressive. Still left over 20% tip, but realistically it should’ve been 0…

A “second generation” Chicago classic! Avvio is the continuation of the original Sabatino’s with many of the original menu items. We had an amazing meal including 4-cheese risotto, mussels & linguine, stuffed chicken Avvio, and aged bone-in ribeye. Bananas foster for dessert. All delicious and very reasonable. Highly recommend!!

I can go into great detail but I’ll try and keep it brief. My wife and I were FREQUENT Sabatinos’s customers…been looking forward to what I thought was going to be a great meal and a new favorite spot. In order to keep it brief:
1) we had a 8pm res. Were seated at 8 – got our entries at 9:22 and all that time ..whatever was happening – I would’ve been fine with the wait if there was even just the occasional check in…leading to …
2) Our server was horrible, she had a panicked look and energy about her. Took forever to get acknowledged, or take our dink orders, forgetting our drink orders, reaching across my wife’s face to put down dishes – not appropriate for serving
3) For the prices – I expected better. $18 for 6 tiny over cooked baked clams, $32 for porcini Gnocchi…was a far cry from the gnocchi dishes of old and gnocchi was drowned in the porcini sauce that looked like…well it looked like someone wasn’t feeling well.
Yes – this is brief compared of what I could say…overall very disappointing

Why hadn’t I heard of this place before!?!? It’s been in the same spot since 2020, so quite the hidden little gem. A lovely little white tableclothed Italian-American restaurant. Cute date spot with am awesome menu. The staff are so friendly and the food is delicious. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Ok, I have a soft spot for Sabatino’s. When I heard that this spot was from their old staff or some
such I was super excited. They did away with the pizza bread at the table, and now offer soup or salad instead of both. And the banana foster is not done table side. However I still left absolutely stuffed and happy. I will be coming back here, and recommend.
