We chose this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday and had an excellent dining experience. The food was outstanding, with exceptional freshness, quality, and attention to detail in every dish. Each item was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, truly reflecting the care and craftsmanship behind the cuisine.
The atmosphere was elegant and inviting, perfectly complementing the overall experience. 2026 UPDATE – Super happy the ownership and management have changed. What used to be a mediocre sushi option in Durham region has now become an elite level sushi restaurant in the GTA – yup the GTA!!!! I’ve been to Japan and Korea – two powerhouses of the raw fish world and I know what’s good and what’s bad. This sushi chef is a rare talent and his food must be tried to experience the actual quality of the sushi.
What I like:
1. fresh
2. variety – not just salmon
3. the taste – phenomenal – the only way you can get to this level is to eat sushi in Vancouver or Seoul or Tokyo.
4. price – bang for the dollar/high value-proposition
Concern:
I don’t want them to get too busy but this is just too good not to share with the other sushi lovers. And the management are wonderful people who deserve the business.
We ordered the large sushi boat both times; once at the restaurant and once for take out. Both times, it was a massive hit. And ever since the last time, I’ve been craving more.
They have an online ordering system which is convenient.
The daughter works the phones/tables and the father is the chef and mother the kitchen support. It’s a small family business and that makes me want them to be even more successful.
This place will blow up very soon. You just watch. I look my Portuguese friend and now she is going to drive all the way from Markham with her visiting sister from Portugal to let her experience this Master sushi chef’s talents.
Don’t hesitate, buy now. I fear WHEN they get popular the prices will go up. Get it now before that happens.

Although it hasn’t been open for long, everything was beyond my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant was spotless and beautifully organized. Have our sushi prayers been answered in Pickering? Over the years it has been a challenge to find sushi that meets our taste in the Pickering region. With the change of ownership at sakura we were hopeful to give it another chance. We definitely had a great first impression and look forward to coming back.

Stuck in COVID times?!?! It was the strangest DINE IN experience ever being served piping hot udon soup in a plastic takeout bowl with plastic cutlery, and the smallest bento meal in a plastic divided tray. For a person who is very concerned with avoiding toxins, eating hot soup out of a plastic bowl is concerning!!!
The only actual real dishes were the melamine shaped dishes to hold the soy and wasabi. To be fair, there were signs that stated you have to bring your dishes to the back when finished but we did not imagine we would get a food court experience.
My udon soup was super bland and flavourless however the only saving grace were the chewy udon noodles; they weren’t overcooked. The beef in the soup was bland so I only ate one bite and gave the rest to my husband. The spicy maki rolls were just okay. However I did hear a loyal takeout customer say “I love your food!” To each his own—having recently come back from Tokyo, this was not the case for us sadly.
In all fairness, the staff are very friendly and respectful. A nice young man did bring the food to our tables but that was it.
We noticed there were many locals picking up takeout so we’re glad they can keep their business afloat with takeout but there is much room for improvement for the dine in experience. Please readjust your dine in practices to post COVID times by tweaking the flavour and serving size portions of your entrees. We wish your business well.
