On a positive note, the server, Trina, was pleasant and personable. The Sunrize mocktail drink was good.
Atmosphere:
The seats need to be repaired. When I first sat down the cushion felt funny. I moved over and realized it was damaged. The seating is not secure to the wall, so it kept moving forward if I was too close to the edge of the seat. The place could use a paint job too.
Food Quality:
~The grits were textured, not creamy,
~The catfish had great flavor but the size of each fillet was equivalent to two small or medium catfish nuggets.
~The biscuit had hard as a brick edges, and an almost dry center. There was nothing honey or buttery about the biscuit either.
~The croquettes were just ok.
~The Sunrize mocktail was good.
Cost:
~Pricey
~Almost $50 for food and an atmosphere that was not good is a bit much
~18% gratuity is added to each bill
I only finished the catfish nuggets they serve as fillets, and the drink. The grits were inedible. I took the rest of the biscuit and croquette home to get my husband’s take on them. He said the croquette was ok, and the biscuit was as hard as a brick so it went in the trash.
When I was asked about the food by a staff member, I had only tasted the grits, so I told the guy that they had texture. He said he’d let the cook know. That was the end of that.
I’m glad this was a solo experience. I’m almost certain I won’t visit or recommend this restaurant. That’s not what I’d hoped for, but it is what it is.
My friends and I got there about 930ish. We were sat right away. Our waitress was Jay. She look like she was the only server on the floor at least on the side we were sitting. Service was very slow and lack luster. It took at least 45 mins to get our food. Mind you it wasn’t crowded. So perhaps they were short a cook and down to one stove, I don’t know. There was no communication when the wait. We ordered fries lobster tail with grits, the ora lee, I ordered mine with grits instead of rice and was not told there would be a charge for the substitution. My other friend ordered the chicken philly skillet. My grits came out cold and my friends skillet had broccoli and carrots in it and the wrong cheese. She specifically asked for American cheeses. Jay repeated back correctly. The kitchen decided to do their own thing. The chicken philly has no broccoli or carrots in it and it states that on the menu. Again service was slow, Jay disappeared. My friend decided to eat some of the food because we already waited 45 mins for the food, no one ever came back to the table until about 20ins later.
We asked to speak to the manager and it’s clear he doesn’t know the menu because he stood there and lied to us and said ALL the skillets come that way. LIES…..it is written on the menu the chicken philly had red and green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Now the veggie skillet has broccoli in it. He was very argumentative about the situation. Kept asking if it was wrong why didn’t we say something. He was not willing to take the food off or even a discount after I explained to him we didn’t send it back because we didn’t see anyone to tell. After telling him twice service was SLOW. In the end he said he wasn’t taking it off because it had been eating. In all actuality my friend picked thru the food because it wasn’t what she ordered. I will not be back because of this service.
This is from 12/25-Large restaurant great for large groups and parties. I went for breakfast and service was great. I had the salmon corquettes for breakfast with my eggs over medium. This is the 1 place I have been to that actually got my over medium eggs correct. The salmon was seasoned perfectly. My only complaint was my rice was room temp not hot at all. No I didn’t send it back because I was able to deal with it. I was that hungry.
I had an amazing experience at Sunrise Cafe, and a huge part of that was the two bartenders (Faye and Netta) working while I was there. Their service was absolutely top-tier — prompt, attentive, and genuinely friendly from start to finish.
They never missed a beat: drinks came out quickly, everything was made perfectly, and they were always checking in without being intrusive. You could tell they really care about the guest experience and take pride in what they do. Even when things got busy, they stayed calm, professional, and incredibly efficient.
If you’re looking for great vibes, excellent drinks, and bartenders who truly go above and beyond, Sunrise Cafe is the place. I’ll definitely be back!
