I got assigned cake duty somewhat last minute for my mom’s birthday. I haven’t felt the cakes I’ve bought from different places in the last few years ended up being all that tasty or worth the cost so I did another search for “cakes near me.” Of note, I had been wanting to try desserts from this place before now but I’m not a frequent dessert eater….anyway, when I saw their reviews were so high and liked the website during my last minute effort to find a bakery near me, I decided to give them a call. They were so kind and worked with me to get a cake done on time, both when we spoke over the phone and when I went to place the order. My mom is very picky about her icing, so having cake duty is always stressful Y’all, I was amazed at how tall and elegant the cake was when I arrived to pick it up (I picked the medium size and boy can I say the smallest size would have been plenty…but now we have more leftovers so I am glad I sized up ). Upon first bite, the flavor met the rest of my hopes…very moist and clearly baked by someone who knows good ingredients! The cake as a whole is very rich but in a way that feels light; the icing is superb, and both the filling and the actual cake are flavorful and decadent. I can assure you the white almond cake with buttercream icing and raspberry filling is a smash hit in my house and we have declared this bakery will be our new go to for cakes and assorted desserts!! From the excellent service to the amazing quality (I picked up a few other items when I placed my order from their display and those were well received too), I will be back! Thanks Sugar Crystals for exceeding my expectations and making my mom one happy lady for her birthday! ❤️

The best bakery in Wilmington!!!! Made us a three layer heart shaped strawberry wedding cake with buttercream frosting with cherries and beautiful decor!!!!!!! It was the very best cake I’ve ever eaten! Will be a repeat customer for all our occasions! And it’s in Myrtle grove/monkey junction area beside j. Michael’s!!!! I had no idea they were right there all this time…Hopefully the new target store will bring them more clientele….they’re amazing! Thank y’all so much!!!!

This triple chocolate cake was the BEST I have ever had! My son had a specific cake design in mind and they executed it perfectly. They even called to verify what specifically he wanted. The layers and depths of chocolate is amazing. You can tell it is homemade with love. The best, absolute hands down!

We can’t thank our baker enough! We found them last minute after our original cake baker fell through, and they immediately came to the rescue. They were so kind and accommodating — they fit us in for a tasting right away and helped us create our absolute dream wedding cake, all for such a reasonable price.
We had one tier of strawberry and one tier of chocolate, along with funfetti cupcakes, and everything was so delicious. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how good the cake was! We’re beyond grateful for how smoothly they made everything come together — highly recommend!

Ordered a last minute cake to celebrate my son’s birthday at the beach. Customer service was excellent and so kind. The cake they made was huge! Incredible value for the cost and it looked great. The icing was absolutely the best part as the cake itself was a bit dry but tasted ok. Overall would highly recommended for the service alone!

Where do I start?! We are on a weekend trip for my daughter’s sweet 16. I looked at two grocery stores, and was disappointed to find nothing.
My best friend checked google for other options. She found Sugar Crystals Baking Co. So, we went in, and we were greeted…the place was immaculate and I immediately felt the calmness and love in the place!
We showed up a hour and a half til closing time…and still…these folks treated us like the first customers of the day! the owner, Crystal…she is the salt of the Earth, let me tell you!! Her staff were SO HELPFUL! When they were sharing my options with me, and nothing sounded right, I shared my vision…they took it and ran. They went above and beyond to bring my vision to life at the last minute. They literally poured their hearts into making the perfect cake for our little family this weekend. I left in tears…OF JOY!

Celebrating my birthday with a week at Wrightsville Beach. We wanted a nice cupcake or small cake to add to the celebration. Based on reviews, my husband and I dropped by Sugar Crystals the day before my birthday to check out what they offered. A very nice lady at the counter took time to tell us about the different desserts. She didn’t know what flavors would be available on November 11. But, she generously offered to talk with the owner when she returned and to call me with that information. She did call to tell me the names of the three flavors that would be offered. I asked if the strawberry was made with real strawberries. She asked the owner and was told yes, real strawberries were used. I chose strawberry made into a mini cake based on that information. My husband picked the cake up the morning of November 11. They had decorated it with pretty flowers which was unexpected. We were disappointed in the cake. We had expected some small pieces of strawberry in the cake since I was told it was made with strawberries. I thought the cake tasted like it was from a mix. This is the reason for the 4 star rating. Perhaps I should have chosen a different flavor or tried their famous banana pudding.

Just noticing this little gem was right by my hous3, I decided to check it out today, and I am so glad I did. The first thing I eyed was this large, square tin pan of Bannana Pudding, and I knew I had to try it and let me tell you…❤️ One of the owners I had the pleasure of meeting was Donnie. Him and his wife Crystal own the shop and are super sweet and informative, and he told me that his mother in law is the one who makes the old fashioned BPs and I will say it is the best I have ever eaten, hands down. I had to call and tell my mom and my neighbors about it, lol. Nevertheless, I will be frequenting this place, I’m just getting started lol

Love this place! This is my Friday after school treat stop! Everything here is good. All the cakes are so moist and the frosting is delicious. Family favorites: Apple Turnovers, chocolate covered jumbo marshmallows, cake pops, key lime pie, buckeye, yellow cake with chocolate fudge icing, red velvet cake…..okay well everything is a favorite. They even have wholesale dog treats!

Absolutely amazing little bakery!!!! I’m not sure what all they can do or have but these cinnamon rolls are some of the best and biggest! The lady told me 20 seconds in the microwave to warm them up the next morning and she was right! The customer service was so great. She was super friendly and knowledgeable and helped me with exactly what I needed. I can’t wait to go back and see what else they have!
