Chef Mei Lin’s take on Chinese cuisine that is elevated by paying homage to classic dishes. My favorite dish of the night was the Nam Yu Roasted Chicken. The way it was cooked reminded me of duck and it was so juicy and tender in a velvety sauce full of flavor. For drinks, my favorite was the Martini 88 that is such a unique take on a martini with Chinese mustard greens that pairs very well. Their signature is the Prawn Toast that is super nostalgic and tasty. Small and romantic atmosphere. Service was friendly and super nice too!

Easily the best meal I’ve had in LA. 88 Club in Beverly Hills blew me away, even more the second time around. The vibe is elegant yet welcoming, and every dish felt special.

We started with the cucumber mushroom salad, which was so fresh and addictive, followed by the sesame prawn toast absolutely fantastic.

The star of the evening, though, was the roasted chicken. It was hands-down the juiciest, most flavorful chicken I’ve ever had. The scallion-ginger sauce that came with it was incredible, and the seasonal fried rice with broccoli was the perfect pairing.

The wine selections were spot on and really elevated the whole dinner.

Honestly, if you want an unforgettable dining experience, 88 Club is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back!

One of my all time favorite restaurants was Nightshade in LA, an unfortunate casualty of Covid. But Chef Mei Lin rallied back with the opening of her new restaurant, the 88 Club. Dark and sensual it’s a glamorous take on some traditional Chinese dishes and it certainly “stuck the landing.” Some menu highlights are the Sesame Prawn toast, Fish Fragrant eggplant and the Nam Yu roasted chicken that feels like a rich bow to Peking Duck. We ended with black sesame ice cream and were so pleased we saved the room. It’s a meal for a date to impress since cost can’t be a concern. The service was outstanding and the vibe, well it is in Beverly Hills.

Having been a big fan of Mei Lin ever since her Top Chef days, and after being so heartbroken that Nightshade closed, I was beyond excited to hear about her new venture, 88 Club. However, my experience on 4/3/25 left me and my party of 4 disappointed. Perhaps we will revisit when things start to run more smoothly, with time and continued staff training.

SERVICE/AMBIANCE: 2/5
We had a reservation, but still waited awkwardly in the doorway (no other place we were told to wait) for at least a few minutes, blocking other patrons from entering. The host was completely zoned out and gestured vaguely after a few minutes, and as we started walking towards the table, we realized he was talking to another party. Some communication would have been nice, and maybe he could have had us wait in the adjacent (empty!) bar/lounge area until our table was ready?

We sat down at the table for at least 15 minutes before anyone even asked us about water or drinks. This entire time we had a clear view of the host, who was still spaced out and staring into the distance.

FOOD: 4/5
The “Singaporean chow mein” was a complete let down, maybe because it was a vegan version? This is a common dish in any Cantonese restaurant, and anyone who’s been to the SGV would be familiar with it. However, this version was lacking wok hei and lacking the egg and char siu that provides this dish its punch of flavor. This one fell flat for sure, and I wish we were given a heads up that this was a vegan dish and probably very different from what we’re used to.

Mapo tofu was overwhelmingly salty and probably meant to be eaten with rice, but no one suggested adding any rice or explained how it was meant to be eaten. It is clear the servers do not have any context or knowledge about this dish or the Singaporean dish as explained above. This is disappointing for those of us that grew up eating these dishes.

Successful dishes included the prawn toast, the XO rice cakes, the 3 cup maitake, the mango sago and almond pudding desserts. However a simple question about the ingredients in the almond pudding clearly left the waiter fumbling and flustered – more training and learning is desperately needed for this restaurant to reach its full potential.

OVERALL: 3/5
I would love to give 88 Club another try once it’s gotten its act together, because the dishes and concepts are inventive, but the service and knowledge of its staff is completely lacking. Hope to be back soon!

The service at 88 Club was exceptionally hospitable and the drinks were spot-on. The decor is dark, moody, cool and incredibly cozy—perfect for a date night or outing with friends. This upscale spot offers elevated Chinese dishes in a tucked-away Beverly Hills location that’s easy to love.

We tried:
Jelly Noodles: Spicy, flavorful, and delicious—my second-favorite bite of the night.
Prawn Toast: Super unique with the prawns tucked inside the toast. I see why it’s a standout signature dish!
Beef Chow Mein: Hands down my favorite—absolutely delicious.
Peppered Steak: This one didn’t quite hit the mark for us; it fell a bit short compared to a great homemade steak.
Fried Rice: Solid but straightforward—nothing extraordinary, just a reliable side.
Maitake: Deep-fried mushrooms done right—you really can’t go wrong.
Custard Bun: A sweet, perfect way to end the meal.

Overall a strong experience—we’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Being a restaurateur myself I can say this place nails it. At 88 Club, culinary magic meets the rhythm of old-school hip hop and R&B, creating an unforgettable dining experience. The food is nothing short of extraordinary, it’s vibrant, it’s eclectic the menu that reimagines classic dishes with a modern twist!! We Savored into the innovative shrimp toast, delighted in the fresh mung bean noodle dish, and we relished into the refreshing chrysanthemum salad. The succulent scallops, paired with their signature homemade chili oil, it elevated each bite. Wish we were able to buy a bottle and take it home with us chef Mei crushed it. And don’t miss their decadent desserts that perfectly round off your meal at the end the crispy buns!!! Damn I had to come back a few hours later to grab it to go. At 88 Club, its a celebration of flavor and culture

Went to one of best Chinese restaurants in Beverly Hills with one of the homies. The restaurant was nicely decorated and feels really elevated and chill at the same time. Everything was great. I had a dish from every category. From the pawn toast, singaporean chow mein, shitake mushrooms, wontons, sweet & sour fish, char siu and for dessert the jasmine milk tea buns. I don’t drink but the bar is very nice with a big selection of cocktails, wines and tea. Everything was great! Got to try the steak and other many dishes next time. The service was A1 from the hostess to the waiters. They were really attentive and knowledgeable. Can’t for their hot chili oil. It was to die for, so don’t forget to ask for that to elevate your dishes. Another Banger from Chef Mei Lin. Be prepared to spend some money, this isn’t your average Chinese establishment. It was worth every penny. Will definitely be coming back for future special occasions or just eat with the fam and friends. A++

88 Club offers modern fresh Chinese food in Beverly Hills. We visited on the second night after opening so I understand there will be some room for improvement but the experience was just not great.

The food was thankfully the best part each dish was well prepared and fresh. It’s not traditional Chinese food but it’s enjoyable. The plating was sometimes odd with several dishes piled high with cilantro that seemed out of place but I didn’t feel any of the dishes were bad. There wasn’t anything special or imaginative outside of the cocktails.

Unfortunately the service and pacing were very off. Time between each course was too long and at one point we received our main dish without sides and that took another 10-15 minutes. The format and timing doesn’t make sense for a restaurant that emphasizes shared dishes.

Staff were not very friendly and despite a very high staff to table ratio they never really felt present or attentive

Overall the experience was disappointing especially for the price and even for a newly opened restaurant I don’t think there’s any reason I’d want to try again.
