CELIACS BEWARE!!! While this place is charming and the food delicious, do not trust the Ai summary that they are “celiac friendly” or even gluten free. When I told the server I was Celiac and asked about cross-contamination, she said, “We have flour all over the kitchen.” She also shared that the dessert crepes (made with flour) are cooked on the same surface as the savory (buckwheat/gluten free) crepes. She told me the tamales WERE safe. I enjoyed them but was then sick to my stomach 30 minutes later. This was my bad as I KNOW that cross contamination is very possible in a kitchen that does not follow strict gluten free protocols. The restaurant does not specify themselves as gluten free on their website. But, somehow, Ai and even findmeglutenfree.com lists them as “celiac safe” and this is not the case. I hope one day the world will understand that gluten free is not just a dietary preference nor a marketing gimmick. It must be a practice followed by the diner and the restaurant. For some people, it is a true medical condition and we have to be so careful. La Guinguette, I suggest adding to your website that you are NOT a true gluten free kitchen to help others.

We had a fantastic dinner!!! The French Onion Soup is a must!!!!! Not to mention the empanadas that have a generous salad with it. The ambiance is so pleasant! We will definitely come back!!

Argentine version of posole, the soup of the day, amazing. Savory crepes, just as good, done with buckwheat flour. Tamales, superb. Side salads, done with proper olive oil in their homemade dressing. Too many eateries go cheap and use horrible seed oils. Lemon crepe for dessert, just as good. Capped off with a perfect espresso.
Right off I40 in Black Mountain. Easy to get to. Park on street right out front.

This is a small restaurant with wonderful food – French and Latin.
The two of us had lunch there. With soup, entree, dessert, tax, and tip, our bill was $99 (no alcohol). Pricey, but gourmet food. No goopy sauces.
The French Onion soup ($11) was exceptional.
Service was friendly and great.
This is in a touristy, mountain t⁶own, so expect the setting to be a bit rustic.

If you’re expecting a nice French cafe with traditional French flavors, this isn’t it. The flavors are decent, I’m not sure what they were thinking with the buckwheat crepes, but it doesn’t blend together. I had the eggs Benedict crepe with salmon, for such an elegant dish the crepe completely ruined it. It was like eating a fishy sponge with eggs on it. I ordered the French onion soup which was their “specialty,” not sure why, because it wasn’t much better than what you get at Panera or another fast casual restaurant. It was like the forgot how to use seasoning in any of the food. Although the food was decent, my main problem with this place is the price. There is a crazy up charge for just being in this location. With the surrounding restaurants the up charge is there as well but, they make it worth it with amazing waitstaff and incredible food. My suggestion is just stop in if you want an overpriced cup of soup but go somewhere else if you’d like to have a nice meal and feel good about paying the up charge.

Great find for brunch with no wait. They don’t have a specific brunch menu. Instead, they redesign a couple of their crepes to make it more breakfast like. Didn’t know what to expect with the ingredients and buckwheat crepes, but it was delicious! So much flavor in both crepes we tried. Service was very good and ambiance is a cute cottage. Would love to go back in the evening to try the French Onion Soup that looked and smelled amazing

A delightful cottage style hidden gem with phenomenal food!
We had tamales, crepes, and the cheese plate! Everything including the service and atmosphere was wonderful. Best way to spend my birthday.
A big thank you for having the raspberry jam crepe on your menu – my mother made that for me as a child and it’s always a memorable treat when I can have it again.

This was such a great little spot. Tracy was awesome! I love the mix of French and Latin cuisine. I’ve got a couple of picky eaters with me, but they took the chance to make my happy. All of the food was delicious!

The atmosphere at La Guinguette is cozy and unique. The service was excellent. However, the empanadas were terrible. They were raw on the bottom and the chicken inside was tough. We expected much better. The staff took care of us and took them off of our bill without any trouble. The crepes were excellent! If you check this place out, I can only recommend the crepes.

First trip to Black Mountain. First time trying La Guinguette. I looked up different restaurants in the area online and I love crepes. The menu sounded great. I tried the blueberry and strawberry crepes with chocolate sauce and they were amazing!! The staff were all very nice and helpful. Loved the atmosphere. Loved the outdoor area. Very cute, cozy, nice, and relaxing place. I definitely can’t wait to come back and try more crepes and other menu items as well
