I had an incredible experience at the rooftop bar Moonshine inside the Elton Hotel Birmingham. From the moment I walked in, the service was top-tier. The Food and Beverage Manager, Gus, truly sets the tone for the entire atmosphere. His leadership is clear and it shows—every guest is taken care of, and the full bar runs like a well-oiled machine.
The bartenders Jalen, Daniel, and Jarvis were exceptional. Their energy, skill, and attention to detail made every drink perfect and the overall vibe unmatched. Special shoutout to Luis as well—he went out of his way to be helpful and make sure everything flowed smoothly.
This team creates an elevated experience that’s rare to find. Whether it’s a night out with friends or a more upscale evening, this rooftop is a must-visit. Huge kudos to Gus and his team for setting the standard for outstanding hospitality in Birmingham.

The online menu shows a wide variety of food. When we got there we were told that the website hasn’t been updated in months. All they offered was pizza, a couple of appetizers, and salads. Wife had a Summer Sangria and said it was pretty good. I had an “Old Fashioned” that was basically a double shot of Woodford with a cherry dropped in it. Cool views from both sides of the bar, but I wouldn’t recommend going unless you just wanted a drink before or after dinner somewhere else. Also paid $10 for valet parking to go have 1 drink. Very disappointed.

We had an awesome experience at Moonshine. The F&B director, Gus was super helpful and made cocktails based on what me and my wife like they were spot on. The food was great too. We tried the “Spicy Moon” pizza, basically a pepperoni with hot honey, and it was seriously good.
Gus checked on us while we were sitting on the patio and even lit the fire pit for us, which was a nice touch. Overall, the service and vibe were great. My only small complaint is that the furniture could use an update but it didn’t ruin the experience at all.

It’s a nice bar. The view over Birmingham is stunning.
It’s self service with long waiting time. The service is really slow and not so welcoming.
The cocktails were unfortunately nothing special. But if you just want to have a beer with a view it’s a nice place.

We went here on a Saturday night after seeing a comedy show at the BJCC. We were excited to visit the rooftop of a beautiful, historic hotel and we were very disappointed. It does feel exclusive, because there is one elevator devoted to taking people to and from the rooftop. Who knows how long we would’ve had to wait if an employee hadn’t badged us into the service elevator. When we got to the top is was SO dark and the paint color makes it feel like a seafood restaurant instead of a swanky rooftop. Then we get to the counter to order and the staff looks absolutely miserable. We were told they were out of a ton of stuff and the only food options were bao buns and queso, as we watched them make what were likely the last 2 pizzas. When deciding on a drink, they also said they were out of a ton of liquor options. The girl behind the desk offered me their version of a French 75 and it was alright. What really made it feel cheap and thrown together was that all of our drinks were served in plastic or paper cups when I had noticed some of the tables had glassware on them. The food took some time to come out. Also our first round of drinks: jack and coke + the french 75 = $30 before tip, however when my wife went to get another jack and coke and it cost only $10. So I’m not sure what is up with that. Overall, it was a pretty unfortunate experience considering how beautiful the hotel and skyline is! The employees didn’t really do anything wrong, I’d blame it on management.

Went in the middle of the week so super quiet and chill. Coctails (espresso martini and an old fashioned) were AMAZING. We got two of the pizzas… And demolished them they were so good. The staff were so chill and helpful. Highly recommend for a chill date night.

My husband and I went to Moonshine during our wedding anniversay weekend when we visited Alabama. Brie took great care of us. She was so nice and made us feel so welcomed. We had the best craft cocktails. She was one of the best Bartenders we came across during our vacation. The rest of the staff at Moonshine were also very friendly and nice. They truly care about the customer experience. We absolutely recommend Brie and Moonshine roof top with the best views in Alabama. We will definitely return on our next visit to Alabama.

The location, the view, and the atmosphere of Moon Shine is fantastic! From the elevator ride up with the glass ceiling panels to the views of downtown and the surrounding area from multiple outdoor areas, this bar has the POTENTIAL to be the best bar in all of Birmingham. The let down was the staff and service…. There were two people on staff covering the bar tending, bussing, cleaning and cooking pizzas for a bar that needed three to four on staff. Old glasses and plates were everywhere. The bar was sticky. Peoples food orders were wrong and or not made at all. Most importantly the drinks were not great and took way too long. The bartender was super friendly and had a great personality BUT it was way too busy for him to try to make conversation when there is literally a line of 6 to 7 people trying to order drinks. Just having a second bartender or a good bar back would have changed the experience completely. For this reason we could only give them 3 stars.
