Great spot for lunch! The bread for my sandwich was flavorful and the meatballs on it were huge and plentiful. My kid loved the pizza slice and my wife said the crab stuffed mushrooms were delicious and she wants to go back for more. The staff was fast with the food and it’s just a great neighborhood joint.

Walking into Lou Umberto’s Italian Kitchen on a drizzly Saturday morning felt like being hugged by a giant red-checkered tablecloth —in the best way possible. Before we could even order, Chef Roberto greeted us with a twinkle in his eye and a warm bowl of Pesto Risotto with Chicken and Red Pepper . Every Saturday from 11 to 1, he hosts a mini magic show of sorts, grabbing pantry staples off the shelves and transforming them into something that could make your Nonna weep with joy.

On this particular Saturday, it wasn’t just about the food—it was about family and community. My neighbor’s son just started working there ‍ —his first job! We popped in not just for a bite but to show some love and support ❤️. And honestly, what a deliciously wholesome excuse to carb-load.

The risotto was creamy, rich, and packed with basil-y brilliance . Watching it come together felt like front-row seats to a cooking show you wish you could smell through the screen. Plus, Chef Roberto even printed out the recipe (with a minor but adorable typo—“pest” instead of “pesto”) for anyone brave enough to try recreating the dish at home.

We ordered the Italian Grander —a toasted sandwich stacked with prosciutto, tomato, and fresh basil, all swirled in a tangy balsamic drizzle. A work of art with a crunch! The Chicken Parm was classic comfort food perfection—crispy, saucy, cheesy, and soul-hugging . My neighbor’s mystery order looked so tempting I nearly staged a fork heist (photo evidence attached ).

Between the warm vibes, community spirit, and risotto revelations, Lou Umberto’s is more than a deli—it’s a weekly Italian love story in three acts: food, family, and flavor .

Final verdict: Come for the risotto, stay for the famiglia ‍ ‍ ‍ ️!

The workers there just don’t want to work, or just want to do things right. They really need to redo the whole staff they always have 1 person who’s a hard worker but the rest just make you not want to go back between orders being wrong, not heated, not being helped, the employees just kind of dragging there feet to walk to you to ask if you need help. It’s just like cmon the foods already been made they just microwave it or scoop it lol it’s laughable. I’m hoping they turn it around

Usually it is a 5 star but today was an off day for them.
My pizza (to go) was aweful. Cold although I picked it up early thought it was wrong when I opened it. Saw meatballs but it was the overcooked bubbles.
Ordered a calzone ate a quarter of it before I got to the filling.
Counter girls were not very friendly in fact seemed annoyed when the couldn’t find my order
Sorry for a bad review but this visit was AWEFUL and if I was a first timer I wouldn’t come back

This year was the first Thanksgiving we ordered from a restaurant. Our family got a turkey platter and sides for Thanksgiving. The only words we had about everything, the The taste and freshness of the turkey, the sides the gravy, the food preparation all of it ….we were all highly impressed. Will certainly be back. Thank you for making our family Thanksgiving wonderful this year

First time trying Lou Umbertos. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon around noon. Place was busy during the typical lunch rush hour. Went with the Spicy Italian pizza and thought it was great overall. Good amount of toppings, cooked well. Very good overall tasting. A little grease, but not bad.
Sauce was good. Crust had a decent crunch along the edges. Pizza had a lot of flop but was manageable. Good undercarriage. Good cheese and good overall taste. Did add some parmesean and red flakes to kick it up a notch. Very enjoyable pizza. Service was average at best. Pizza gets a Google 4, 7.6 out of ten.

I will not say the food is bad. Far from it. But sadly the staff seems to be far worse than lack luster . The times I’ve gone in to get to go food (not heated from the delicatessen area),each time it takes longer, and longer . I could understand if it was super busy, but that was not the case yesterday at 5 pm. I saw no less than 6 employees then, there was myself, and one other man in line. After 15 min of not even being acknowledged, the man in line before me left . I asked one of the staff if they were open, because I thought I may have walked in as they were closing or on a break. One employee said no we are open but we are busy. Oh ok to busy to even give a customer acknowledgment? Yes the food is good but customer service is definitely lacking.

A very friendly gentleman waited on us at the counter. First time I’ve been here. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is authentic. The service is extremely friendly. Can’t wait to come back. I wish we had a place like this in Narragansett.

Best pizza in RI. Super thin slices, and great sauce. It takes them a little time to make your pizza but it’s worth the wait.

The food is great, but the checkout process is painful. Need to wait in line twice. One to order, then to pay. Would rather pay right after ordering.

The system needs an overhaul, but it’s worth the irritation for the great food.
