Nostalgic moment sitting where we sat when it was Stella’s 210 a few years ago so a comfortable start. It was lunch so I passed on the Huevos Mexicana that I had read about.
Deb had a chicken burrito with green chili. She said it about a three star offering. I had fish and chips and was hoping for better. The chips (fries to non Brits) were good a solid 4+, not greasy, nice texture and tasty. I have mixed feelings about ketchup in packets but don’t think bottled ketchup is necessary especially if the fries are the only dish for it. The tartar sauce was good. The fish was a nice light golden but greasy to touch and it appeared there was a space inside between the fish flesh and the coating. I mention that because there was a sense of undercooked coating both in taste and feel. The traditional offering with fish and chips is malt vinegar but local tastes may lean in another direction.

I plan to return to try the Huevos Mexicana because I really like eggs and the dish is intriguing.

The coffee was quite good and the service was friendly and attentive.

The Baja fish tacos were fresh and delicious with an excellent tarter sauce and green chili sauce. The Mango and Horchata refresher drinks were excellent. The waitresses were very kind. The chicken flautas were also fresh and delicious. There’s air conditioning and free, ample parking on the premises. This is so important because a lot of restaurants and bars in Taos don’t have parking. The dessert of coffee cake with ice cream and chocolate sauce was fresh and delicious. You can also get takeout and order food through its drive thru.

so, this was jalapeños, and now under new ownership as “sunrise”.
i must say i’m very disappointed that they simply appropriated the jalapeños listing on google maps.
you need to earn those years of high ratings, and sunrise, scarcely a week young, did not. the new menu also has nothing to do with the original jalapeños menu.
That said, the owners are really nice, and we have dined here twice this week.
Jalapeños was fully a mexican restaurant, and indubitably the best Mexican restaurant in taos. meanwhile,Sunrise is just another ricky’s , with a few mexican dishes. This is not amexican restaurant.
Note to owners, that ricky’s and michaels have the low quality junk food, gluten and sugar fields fully covered for taos.
taos just lost a great and successful mexican restaurant, so please go that direction instead of the black hole of ricky’s.
leave the wraps and cheese burgers to mcdonalds across the street.
we need good Mexican food!
sunrise restaurant is NOT grossly overpriced as one customer recently complained.
there is not a lower priced mexican restaurant in taos than sunrise.

Stoped in after a skiing, food was Absolutely Great along with the service. The waitress was holding down the front of the house, she was sweet and nice. I dont eat meat sometimes its hard to find places with good food to accommodate my diet especially in small towns/communities. Wish i lived closer. The woman closing Thursday deserves a raise!!!! Shes great!

Stopped in for lunch and wow was it delicious! The menu has a large number of selections. We opted for street tacos (there are about a dozen different kinds to choose from) and the mole chicken. Both of our entrees were excellent. The service was very quick and friendly. We highly recommend!

Delicious food, generous portions! I couldn’t come up with a complaint if I had to. I’ve eaten here several times over the last few years and it’s one of my favorites in Taos.

The veggie enchiladas were delicious. The green chili was pretty spicy but complemented the dish well. The food was prepared fresh, not frozen. Portion size was perfect. No leftovers. Will definitely be back.
