The food was simply delicious, each dish better than the last, with flavors that surprised in every bite. You could notice the care in every detail of the presentation and the quality of the ingredients.
A detail that made the evening even more special was that the chef himself came to our table to greet us and make sure we were enjoying the experience. That gesture of closeness and passion for what he does made all the difference.
Undoubtedly, a place I would return to a thousand times. Totally recommended!
“Imagine your brother is about to serve 12 months in prison. He’ll get three hot dogs a day and one piece of lettuce at lunch and dinner. What three dishes would you want him to eat as his last real meal for a year?”
And because I don’t drink at business dinners, I added:
“His cellmate is a giant gangster. Your brother’s safety depends entirely on how good this mocktail is.”
Cameron took it in stride and delivered like a pro:
Tuna Tartare, Signature Crispy Red Snapper, Signature Fried Rice, and the Saigon Mint Colada (mocktail).
The Tuna Tartare – I’m from Hawaii and live in LA. I’ve had every tartare under the sun, and this one? Pure magic. Whatever chili-sesame-garlic spell they cast belongs in a museum. Easily top 2 of my life.
The Signature Crispy Red Snapper – Perfectly crisp outside, flaky inside, and cooked to absolute perfection.
The Signature Fried Rice – A total surprise. The Vietnamese pork sausage can be tricky to balance, but they nailed it. I threw portion control out the window and went all in.
The Chilled Vegetable Roll – Their peanut sauce, with a hint of sambal chili, takes this classic to a new level.
The Saigon Mint Colada (Mocktail) – Refreshing, minty, perfectly balanced. My only complaint? I didn’t get enough.
Final Verdict:
Le Colonial is the kind of restaurant that makes you rethink moving cities—it’s that good. Incredible food, thoughtful staff, and a dining experience that’s equal parts elegant and fun.
Oh, and for the record: Cameron’s brother (and all his crevasses) is safe for the next 12 months.
For Valentines day the menu consisted of 4 choices of appetizers, 4 choices of entrees and 2 options for dessert. From the get go the waitress told us one of the desserts was finished (great start) so that narrowed it to literally whatever they want to give you.
After placing the order for the entrees (we both went for steak, since only 1 option out the 4 was steak)the waitress came back to out table to inform us that only 1 of us could have steak because they ran out. So for Valentine’s day 1 of us had to eat something they did not want and because the menu was also extremely limited, there was not even an illusion of choice.
We complained to her because essentially we drove 40 minutes and paid $300 for a meal we didn’t even want, when I made the reservation, it stated the menu, but out of the 10 dishes in total, the 2 most popular ones were gone.
The manager came out to rather unapologetic, making it seem as if it’s normal that for Valentines they run out of food and then left to not come back. If you run out of food for Valentines it just means you didn’t prepare right, and if you didn’t prepare right, you shouldn’t make as much money as if you had prepared well.
No complimentary anything was given to us, and on top of that, a couple that arrived 20 minutes after us did get 2 steaks.
I paid $400 for a meal with my wife that she did not enjoy. If you don’t keep up your end of the deal, I shouldn’t either.
I will send this review straight to American Express along with a charge dispute and see if they are happy with you not keeping up your Valentine’s day menu.
Shortly after our drinks were delivered, a glass of champagne was spilled from the server’s tray, soaking both me and my boyfriend, as well as our table. While I understand that accidents happen, no manager ever came by to acknowledge or apologize for the incident. We remained in wet clothing throughout dinner, were not offered a new table, and the drinks were not removed from the bill. There was also no offer to assist with dry cleaning.
We were also never informed when making our reservation that the evening would be a $125 prix fixe menu. That lack of transparency was frustrating from the start. For that price point, the value felt limited. My tuna tartare was listed as gluten-free but arrived missing the caviar component, and there was no gluten-free dessert option available. Additionally, one dessert option ran out, so some guests were not given a choice — which is disappointing for a fixed-price holiday menu.
What has been most disappointing, however, is the complete lack of follow-up. I reached out directly to the restaurant to allow the opportunity to address this privately and professionally, but after more than a week, I have received no response.
Because of this experience and the absence of communication, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to others. Valentine’s Day is a meaningful occasion, and unfortunately, this evening fell far short of expectations.
Service very courteous and profesional but on the slow side.
