Everything we ordered came out hot and satisfying. The red wine braised beef short ribs were tender and flavorful, the crispy pork knuckle was huge and perfect for sharing, and the beef chow fun had real wok hei. The eggplant with beef short ribs was especially good over rice.
They’re open from morning until late, which makes it an easy choice whether you’re stopping by for a quick meal or eating with friends. Free rice and drink refills for dine-in are a nice bonus.
The place is pretty old-school and can get busy during peak hours, but you always leave full and happy Definitely a reliable neighborhood spots I keep coming back to.
Being a Hongkonger in SoCal, family dinners always mean cha chaan teng vibes
Sunday Bistro started us off with their classic complimentary East-meets-West soup — 羅宋湯 (borscht). We had to order our favorites: sizzling steak and baked pork chop spaghetti. For around $15, the portions are huge — perfect to take home for the next meal.
Another must-have is the eggplant clay pot with beef short ribs (牛仔骨) — served piping hot with rice, full of authentic Hong Kong flavor.
It was also our first time ordering the crispy fried vermicelli, and it was surprisingly good — crispy on the outside with soft noodles inside
The food was also very delicious! The Pineapple Bun was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, with a soft, fluffy texture. My favorite was the Baked Fillet with Spinach in Cream Cheese Sauce, rich and creamy without being too heavy. The fish was also cooked perfectly and super tender. For a comforting and flavorful dish, the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce in Hot Pot is a must get.
The grilled items were cooked to perfection. The Grilled Pork Chop and Chicken Steak were both juicy and tender. The HK Style Sweet & Sour Pork was a great example of a classic done right, with a tangy and sweet sauce that coated the crispy pork perfectly. The Braised Tofu in Brown Sauce was simple yet delicious, the tofu incredibly soft on the inside with a delicious sauce. The Beef Chow Fun and Beef Hot Pot were hearty and flavorful.
The service was prompt and friendly, making the entire meal a pleasant and relaxed experience. The staff was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Sunday Bistro offers a wonderful culinary journey with its wide variety of dishes and exceptional quality. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great meal in the area.
From the roast meats to the soups, stir-fries, and appetizers, everything was well-seasoned and cooked just right. Portions are generous, dishes come out quickly, and the staff is friendly. It’s rare to find a Cantonese spot in LA that has been running this long and still keeps the flavors so true to home.
If you’re looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine, this place will not disappoint. We’ll definitely be coming back!
We tried quite a few plates: the sweet and sour pork was crispy with just the right tang, the beef chow fun had that nice wok hei flavor, and the baked spinach with cheese was super comforting. The claypot dishes were hearty, and of course the pineapple bun with butter was a must-order — warm, fluffy, and nostalgic. Portions are generous, so it’s great for sharing family-style.
Service is straightforward and food comes out quickly, which matches the casual, bustling tea café atmosphere. Prices are reasonable considering the variety and portion size.
