1st time I said I would never go back due to the bad customer service. Well a year or so later we did go back and it was good, not many people there. Well this Valentine’s day was a total disaster, checked in at 6:20, reservation was 6:30 and we did not get out of there until 9 and the worst service ever. Another table next to us also left before getting there meal. I am done with that restaurant!

Got to Interlachen around 5:15 without a reservation and fortunately they had one available table at the back. Seems like a very busy place due to the relatively small size of the restaurant and popularity. Our table started off with their version of fried pickles for an appetizer. They were definitely a hit with the pickle actually inside the deep fried shell stuffed with creme cheese. Ranch dressing provided for dipping. Soups including their chilli as well as clam chowder were very good. My side salad was OK but actually could have been a tick larger and had a tomato. Dressing was tasty and salad came with a warm hard roll that hit the spot. The table had entrees ranging from my 12 oz teriyaki ribeye to coconut shrimp and full rack of barbecue ribs. All were prepared to perfection and tasted great. Price point of dinners ranged from $27 to $32 which seemed to be very reasonable for quality and dining experience. Nice overall stay at Interlachen and would come back when in the area. The only negative thing I could think of is they have a number of quotes and pictures of celebrities on their walls. However, one of them comes from Bill Cosby who in my estimation should not be quoted in any establishment after all his very serious criminal charges. Might suggest this gets taken down. It’s in the back where most people don’t see it but we did and think it’s in poor taste and somewhat offensive. Don’t want it to spoil the visit that was relatively a positive one.

We had 8 people in our group and the Inn was very accommodating. The service was amazing and most of the food was perfect. Walleye was a little overdone and steak bites were a little tough. The burgers, soups, appetizers, and everything else were perfect!!

Was looking so forward to coming here. Waitress was so friendly and nice. The meal however. Was nasty. Ordered the 8 Oz sirloin. Neither of us could cut through it. I couldn’t even pull my fork out of the steak without using my fingers on the steak to hold it down to get my fork out. So disappointed.
For a bill around $100.00. It was upsetting!!

I would have loved to have given a better rating for the food and service. This place has apparently been nearly legendary for many years.

We were seated within 15 minutes in a booth with a much colered duct tape as vinyl. The dining room was nearly 1/3rd full.

We Were given menu’s and allowed the time to look at them for 15 minutes. When the staff came back we were ready to order (also a bit thirsty). Luckily our beverage orders were taken.

Beverages came 10 minutes later. Again in their defense there had to be nearly 1/3rd of the tables occupied.

So nearly 45 minutes after walking in we were able to order.

After ordering, from an extremely concise menu (which I appreciate) (I mean who doesn’t want to know exactly how many slices of boiled egg, crutons, cherry tomatoes come on a side salad).

During this time a soup (French Onion) was brought to me. I had not ordered it. It looked absolutely delicious! However i didn’t order it. That being the case I brought it to our servers attention when they eventually back. She expressed regrets and took it away, and deposited on another table to eat. Wow.

Our Main course came to our table in a breakneck speed of another 45 minutes.

Unfortunately this is where things turned south.

Our entire tables food was severely overcooked. All three plates. They tried a second time on one entrée (the steak) which also was overcooked. The wait staff attempted to go with the old “you should taste it.. the flavor…” ok a medium steak ordered doesn’t “taste good” at 180 degrees F.

Really wanted this bar/lounge to be a hit. Unfortunately it didn’t meet the hype.

Looked like the pull tabs may have been worth trying though, as that’s what the working staff was occupied with.

$150.00. 2 sandwiches with fries, 2 apps, 2 beers, 1 steak w fries and salad. Including tip (20%)

They say never say never. However I feel comfortable saying your dining time and dollars might be more enjoyable elsewhere.

Let me preface this review by saying that my family has been vacationing in Alexandria for over 25 years, and I have always enjoyed my dining experiences at Interlachen Inn in the past. Which, was why I chose to order here for my birthday – a place where I have liked the food, portions, and my experiences.
We just moved to Alexandria in the past month. My wife still works in the Twin Cities and was away for work. Today was my birthday. So I left work, called to place a take-out order. I even told them that it was my birthday and that I’m eating alone tonight & wanted to place a take-out order. Half thinking, maybe they’d offer something small for free, or a discount, or even just a few extra fries as a kind gesture or feeling sorry for me eating alone on my birthday.
Time: just before 3 p.m. on a Thursday. I arrived and there were maybe 3 cars in the lot. Definitely NOT busy. My order was ready when I arrived. I was given the credit card receipt to sign and left a $3 tip for handing me my food as he stood and watched me sign. No “thank you”, just a “Have a good day”. I left to go enjoy my food while it was still hot. Opened up my to-go box and was disappointed with the portion size for the price. Ate my small portion of fries first as I always do (because they always cool off so fast). Then took my first bite of the burger. All I could taste was char. I didn’t even order it well-done, nor did they ask how I wanted it cooked. I opened it up and looked at the bottom. It was very charred all across the bottom. I couldn’t taste anything else but the charred burger patty. When I tried to scrape the burnt parts off, half the patty thickness was gone. I eventually just ate the bun and green olives and tossed the meat. Not my favorite experience, and not sure how soon I’ll be back. Disappointed, as it was a place I held high regard for and even had purchased some sweatshirts from them in the past. I really hope this is an anomaly and not their new normal. I normally am not someone who gives reviews, but this one just really bothered me. I gave it 2 stars only b/c of my postive experiences in the past and my small amount of fries were good. Feels too “mean” to give 0 or 1 star. I genuinely hope and pray it was just an atypical experience.

Went for new years eve. Had reservations which they had trouble finding. The food was excellent! The service was terrible. After food was served we never saw the waitress again. We had to ask another waitress to get our bill. We were there at 4:30 pm and the dining room wasn’t even half full. Not sure we will be back anytime soon.

Excellent food, spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer. My wife and I split the walleye sandwich. The we got a piece of key lime pie which was excellent. Nice job to the staff here.

This is our second visit to Interlachen and both times were equally pleasant. The food was good, we especially like the sirloin and pan fried walleye. Jim also liked his drink, creamy cat…a dessert drink. It would have been nice if the steak knives were sharp. The wait staff was friendly and helpful with drinks and the menu. We recommend this restaurant for a nice evening dinner.

We took our son and his fiancée out for dinner out to Interlachen. They had never been there and it had been a long time since we’ve been there. We loved the food, service and the atmosphere! Appetizer’s were awesome. The food was all home made… even the salad dressing. Could not have been happier with our outing!!!
