Stumbled upon **The Feteer Guy** on Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach during a surf-side craving, and holy layers, what a find! This tiny Egyptian outpost (think hole-in-the-wall with big dreams) is a flaky paradise—neon sign buzzing, open kitchen where the feteer spins like a savory-sweet UFO, and a playlist of Arabic pop mixed with ocean waves crashing nearby . It’s casual AF: order at the counter, snag a stool outside, and watch the world (and your dessert) unfold.
The **lotus feteer** is a textural dream—dozens of ultra-thin, butter-brushed dough layers baked to golden shatter, stuffed with creamy halva-like lotus paste that’s nutty-sweet without the cloying trap. It pulls apart in steamy wisps, revealing pockets of that fragrant bean goodness, dusted with powdered sugar and pistachios for crunch. One bite? Crispy edges yielding to gooey center—it’s like a Middle Eastern mille-feuille met a Nutella crepe and had a love child .
But the **Nutella feteer**? Straight-up addiction fuel. Same ethereal layers, now oozing with that hazelnut-chocolate elixir, warm and melty, with banana slices adding fresh pop and a side of strawberry compote for tart balance . It’s indulgent but not heavy—flaky enough to fool you into a second slice. Portions are shareable (barely), and they arrive hot, wrapped in foil for beach picnics.
Service? The owner (Sam?) chats like you’re family, customizing fillings on the fly—no upcharge for extras. Dog-friendly patio, quick 5-min waits even on weekends. Only docking 0.3 because the savory options (like za’atar) tempted me too much—next trip’s mission. The Feteer Guy isn’t just food; it’s a flaky hug from Cairo. Huntington Beach’s sweet-savory secret—I’m hooked.
Everything is made fresh takes a little time but worth the time to cook fresh and hot. The items are freshly made and with a smile. While you wait take your time to study menu, watch the chef prepare to go items, ask questions and decide what to order the next time. I was lucky to meet the chef and his family sharing their evening together. They had their chocolate desert that was so sticky and tasty. Over all this was an unusual experience for me and I loved it! I watched an interesting process of pressing sugarcane to make a drink which was also very refreshing not as sweet as you’d imagine.
Their handicap accessibility is nice, the family size tables & end spots work well for wheelchair comfort.
The food was delicious and tasted incredibly authentic. The decor, filled with funny Egyptian phrases, truly made us feel like we were back in Egypt.
We ordered a regular pie: half cheese, half pastrami — and for dessert, we couldn’t resist the half Nutella, half Biscoff pie. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot.
We’ll definitely be coming back!
I ordered the sujok and it was so delicious , I couldn’t even finish it .
Great place , I hope they have branches all over
