I drive by this restaurant all the time, I have been wanting to stop in and grab a bite to eat, it looks amazing! Truthfully, the food is cooked to order and they are using fresh products. They have many options for vegan, vegetarian, or the meat eaters! They also have natural products, I bought black soap and I’m looking forward to using it! I saw oils, incense, soaps and gift shop type items.

I ordered takeout and it did not disappoint. Fresh cut fries, perfect seasoning and the burger was delicious. I got it without a bun. I can’t wait to get back and try other items. I also ordered the black hibiscus tea. So good!!!!

The restaurant was clean and the service was professional and friendly! I feel like I saw a sign that said no public restroom.

The food is good! We had Impossible, Swiss and mushroom burger and fries. And my partner had a beyond burger with sweet potato fries. The burger could have been just a little bit more seasoned. But overall Great service great atmosphere. The food came out in a timely manner, friendly staff. Very hot and very fresh.

After the show in Dallas… my niece, friend and I met at Sankofa for an early dinner! Sankofa is a #BlackOwned family restaurant that is vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian friendly. I decided to order the Vegan Spaghetti to take home and the Vegan Rice Bowl!! Everything was absolutely amazing! We definitely plan to go back soon!

Get into it! I am SO pleased with this spot and MAD it took me so long to visit! The woman at the counter was kind, the ambiance was perfect and felt like I was at my favorite cousin’s house. I got the Mushroom/swiss Turkey burger and let me tell you – was better than homemade. Bun: lightly buttered/toasted. Veggies: Fresh and crisp. Properly sauced/not messy. Ordered to-go, but the meal had the car smelling delightful, so you know I had to dip into the FRIES…just like daddy used to make – lightly seasoned with the slightest hint of sweetness. Looking forward to bringing my family and giving the whole menu a try.

First time visiting a spot like this in dallas! Great ambiance, food and customer service. Recently started my pescatarian journey and this spot was the perfect gem with vegan options as well. I recommend their Salmon Bowl✊

Absolutely amazing! The food, the staff, the atmosphere. I was looking for a restaurant that served both plant based food (vegan type) for my husband and regular meat based food for myself and this was a home run! We were enjoying our food so much that my husband who likes to take pictures of food nearly forgot to take any. Hubbies vegan mushroom Swiss chicken sandwich was a hit and his purple rain smoothie was amazing. There was a slight miscommunication and instead of beef I got a turkey burger patty with my bbq bacon burger but I decided to just try it first before saying anything and I am glad the mistake was made because I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I’ve never liked a turkey burger before and I’ve tried a few. I liked it so much that if I’m able to make it here again (I live 5+ hr away) I will be torn between having the turkey burger or the beef! They also make a delicious hibiscus tea!

So if you eat meat this place is for you, if you don’t eat meat this place is for you. If you want a smoothie or hibiscus tea or a cocktail or beer (among other things!!) this place is for you. If you want a relaxed vibe this place is for you….. basically- go give it a try!!

Sankofa Kitchen is great restaurant! Ive been several times, both by myself and with the plant based group The Veggie Outers.

I also bring my clients here sometimes and they love the food and vibe too.

They have a great vegan menu with my favorite item being the vegan bowl. They aren’t just a great restaurant though. Sankofa is a great place to have events at. I’ve hosted both The Veggie Outers 9 and 10 year anniversaries here and my 33rd birthday event. All 3 of these events had over 20 people attending and they loved their experience with Sankofa too!

Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I go to many restaurants to review them and they are easily a 10 out of 10 spot. Highly recommend

I needed to get something quick and yummy as a vegetarian. I located this cool restaurant with decent variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The impossible, mushroom cheese burger was delicious. I’m not sure about the fries since they didn’t have the crunch I was expecting. The staff was nice and it was a pretty cool vibe.

I truly wanted to support this restaurant. The environment felt African-welcoming and culturally affirming, which immediately stood out in a positive way. Unfortunately, while the atmosphere was inviting, the “service and customer experience were not.”

I ordered a Beyond Burger and requested that it be cooked “well-done”. I am very familiar with Beyond Burgers and understand they are made using beet juice to simulate a meat-like appearance. Because I strongly dislike beets and the excess moisture they produce, I intentionally asked for the burger to be cooked longer so it would be firmer, browner, and less juicy.

When the burger arrived, it was visibly undercooked—very pink, overly moist, and “beet-juice-like,” with liquid soaking directly into the bun. I did not bite into it. I politely returned the burger and asked a simple question: “Could you make this well done?”

Instead of a clear yes or no, one of the co-owners became defensive and began explaining that it would “still be pink,” repeatedly focusing on how the burger typically looks rather than addressing my actual request—to cook it longer. I calmly clarified that I wanted it cooked more thoroughly so the beet juice would not run into the bun. After being talked over multiple times, I finally said, “I feel unheard. Can you tell me yes or no if this can be done?”

Only then, with visible agitation, did the co-owner take the burger back.

Ironically—and tellingly—the burger returned “exactly how I originally requested it”: more brown, blackened on top, firmer in texture, and no excess juice. This confirmed that my request was reasonable and achievable from the start.

What was most disappointing was not the initial mistake, but the resistance to honoring a customer’s preference—especially after paying nearly “$20 for a meatless burger.” Everyone has different tastes, and a well-done request should not feel like a challenge to a restaurant’s cooking philosophy.

For transparency, I am a “local food critic” and had “undercover patrons” dining inside the restaurant at the same time—first-time customers whose identities I intentionally did not disclose. I observed their experiences alongside mine to gain an unbiased view of service consistency.

After my interaction with the co-owner, the service toward me noticeably changed. I was not checked on. No one asked how my food was, whether I needed anything else, or if everything was okay—despite other diners receiving routine check-ins. I deliberately set a “21-minute timer” while my son used my phone, observing whether anyone would return to the table after my order was delivered for the second time. No one did.

Meanwhile, my undercover patrons continued to receive standard service, which made the contrast even more apparent.

Final Thoughts:
The restaurant has cultural warmth and potential, but “customer service breaks down when a guest’s preference differs from the kitchen’s default approach.” Respectful listening, accommodation, and basic hospitality should never feel conditional.

Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
• Atmosphere: Positive
• Burger execution: Inconsistent
• Customer service: Poor
• Overall experience: Disappointing

I hope this feedback is received constructively, as the food and concept have promise—but service ultimately defines the experience.

I love Sankofa Kitchen. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. The walls were adorned with beautiful art. The staff was extremely kind, courteous, and welcoming. I enjoyed a vegan burger that was absolutely scrumptious! I’ll be back.
