Refined Japanese eatery offering creative sushi rolls & omakase in a pared-down, chic setting.

Came here for a birthday dinner and had a wonderful experience. The quality of the fish was excellent—fresh and flavorful. The servers were attentive and kept our tea refilled throughout the meal. The hot sake did take a little while to arrive, but we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. At the end, they even brought out a birthday ice cream with a candle, which was a really nice touch. Overall, great service and excellent food. I’d definitely come back.

Highly recommend!
The freshness of the fish, sourced directly from Toyosu Tokyo by a Japanese Taisho, is undeniable.
The nigiri is exceptional – perfect in freshness, beautiful, texture, and sweetness. Perfect presentation.
It’s truly hard to stop ordering more.
The vegetable tempura is equally impressive, with fresh, sweet, and crunchy vegetables in generous portions.
This is an authentic Japanese experience you won’t want to miss. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Stayed at the Aura hotel less than a block away and found this gem. Super attentive and engaging chefs. We did the sashimi deluxe chefs choice meal at the sushi bar. Great presentation and care put into their preparation.

We really wanted to like this place and choose them for our anniversary, but it was just okay. The omakase was disappointing as it didn’t feel like a good value, and the other dishes were just okay. Took forever for them to get our credit card, so we just sat there for a while until we flagged them down. Overall not a bad experience but expected more for the money.

Solid spot! The owner was our sushi chef on a Sunday night and we got bar seating. The omakase is $90 for 10 pieces but the owner was so chill, he hooked us up with 17 pieces! We also ordered the wagyu, extra amaebi nigiri, and uni at the end. Every piece was delicious and authentic. The tasting came with an appetizer and soup, too. We enjoyed our experience for my birthday celebration.

I can confidently say this is the best sushi restaurant in the bay. I’ve tried so many various sushi places and all of them are pretty bad, this place is easily top 3, honestly top 1 for me in terms of quality of the sushi, my friends and I ordered every special roll and they were all bangers. Service is great too and inside is very clean and modern. Only downside is the pretty limited parking outside. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing anniversary lunch at Gintei! Kaori provided excellent service including a sake flight tasting to allow us to narrow down our sake choice. We selected a delicious sake and did the sushi omakase in addition to an ala carte order of the A5 wagyu and the Hokkaido uni. All the food was excellent, even the miso soup, and they even comped us a green tea ice cream at the end! Fabulous!
We loved the beautiful Japanese decor and enjoyed the excellent service!

Great Sushi! I’m from San Francisco and recently moved away, but had a long layover at SFO – this was the perfect place for a quality meal before a long flight. It’s not super big, I recommend making a reservation (it was full on a Wednesday night by 7pm). They have great fresh specials for the day, things that I’ve never even heard of before. They have the three sections of Bluefin (lean, mid fat, fatty belly) along with the standard selection of rolls you see on SF menus.
Service was good, everything came out pretty quick. Sushi chefs were super nice and accommodating.

Excellent quality. We came here for lunch today on a Thursday and it was not packed; no need for a reservation. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to find parking behind el camino real though. The lunch specials were excellent. The menu is simple and elegant. The interior decor reminds me of when I was studying abroad in Japan. And the rice and ginger are excellent quality, and of course, the sashimi. Definitely worth it for lunch! Great service too.

Gintei is scratching the heels of being truly special. The sushi is top notch and made with professionalism, passion and homage to authentic Japanese minimalism. It’s almost textbook perfect. Tastes great. The entire store gives that restrained vibe. They want to keep it low key. All good.
Go for the Omakase. That’s the only way to understand the chef. What he has to offer and the energy he puts into each craft.
I do think though that Gintei should think about the “art” side of things to break the next level. It already is one of our favorite sushi places as is, but with just a sprinkle of artistic creations I do think we are looking at a Michelin star here. It may be a bit of presentation or possibly the temperature of the rice. I can’t put a pulse on it but something doesn’t fully come together at the top level.
This is a wonderful sushi joint. Just wish they had a better parking solution. Easy to miss while driving by. Make the trip. Try them out.
