Went next day and same quality and service.
I like this place. Definitely check it out. Smaller place but very comfortable. Fresh!
Lets start with the pros here, particularly with the interior. The place is kinda small, but they decided to go with booths still, and I love it. Whether you’re on a lunch with a coworker, or on a dinner with your family, it keeps you a bit more private and most of the seats do so. Three more tables fit in the middle, and they are within reasonable distance, so it’s not jammed. Also, I like this minimalistic design with wooden planks and marble-looking tiles.
As to the drinks selection, I really appreciate the decision taking few beers from the local brewery! More places should do so. Personally, I’d go with a tap, but these were canned. They gave me an ice cold glass, which is a great attention to detail, however, when I ordered different beer they did not change it, which is very very bad.
Now to the food. I got the Hawaiian tuna poke bowl (which was served in the wooden bowl with the wooden spoon – again nice thinking) with brown rice, but the latter has been the most dissappointment. Usually, the rice for the poke bowls isn’t the one they use for rolls. In poke it should be more crumbly, and this one was sticky as a risotto. Avocado was turning black already, and I
assume they don’t store it properly. The weirdest part here, is tuna. Mine was red and fresh-looking, at the same time, my gf’s tuna inside one of the rolls, was a color of medium done steak and completely dry (see the difference in the pictures). I looked at the sushi bar, and I saw 4 huge tuna pieces in this bar-fridge completely uncovered. Bottom ones were already going dark, and hide those inside the rolls is a bad idea. PLASTIC FILM is what you cover each container plate AFTER EACH CUT.
The other roll on the picture, is a signature roll ‘Salmon Addiction’. It wasn’t particularly addictive, since it was made kinda sloppy, one ingedient was missing (comparing to the menu contents) and tasted as yet another regular roll.
I wouldn’t be that much captious and picky, if the pricing was as if it’s a lunch spot. Instead, it equals to the sushi places that have been around for a while and deserved their reputation with years of outstanding food. My poke bowl was $11, which is fine, but that’s a special. I would regret if I went with the one for $15. Signature roll was $13, and it’s absolutely not worth the money.
I was like ‘Why then all the reviews yet are 5 stars?’ (there are 16 of them up to this moment). The answer was on the wall, they offer glass of wine for one. At the same time, there is a choice of chicken dumplings or spring rolls for following on instagram, I asked if I can get vegetable spring rolls, and they said no. No bid deal, but I would offer that, that’s called customer service.
Again, don’t take me wrong, but there are quite a few places around I would rather go.
All of the above can be fixed with a ton of hard work and control from the management.
I would also suggest to lower the rates for the food and drinks within first few month to acquire local customers, impress them with finest quality at the same time; rather then ask for reviews and rely solely on one-time walk-innners (yea I made this word up:).
Chuck takes pride in serving the freshest ingredients.
Try it today!
And of course, the sushi never disappoints!
