Service (5/5): The two servers were bustling around to take orders and send out the food with great speed. Our waitress was friendly and provided good recommendations.
Food (Overall 2/5):
Famous stuff calms (2/5): Not sure if there was much calm meat but the stuffing tasted mostly of cheese. It tasted good but wasn’t something I’d order again.
Braised short ribs (4/5): this was the best dish of the party; it was fall off the bone soft with a gravy coating that was flavorful; substituted the mash potatoes with an order of well-done fries!
Fish and Chips (3/5): nothing to write home about
Petite filet mignon (2/5): not well seasoned and tough to eat
New Zealand Rack of Lambs (3/5): I thought they were seasoned decently but tough meat.
We had drinks mango tini ( not so sweet but perfect, not strong in alcohol), malbec wine, and cucumber drink (vodka in it, she usually stops at one drink she had 2 so it was good for her taste).
Our meals were all delicious. I ordered half rack of lamb it comes with mash potato and gravy cooked perfectly. My hubby ordered the beef rib and it was fall off the bone delicious and kinda sweet. Other people in group ordered chicken cordon Bleu, salmon, strip steak, and ribeye. They all said their meal was cooked to perfection and they were all satisfied with thier dish.
Dessert the warm chocolate cake with ice cream was ooey gooey delicious and The hot apple with cinnamon and ice cream was tastey. Our Server was extremely attentive to our group and our needs. All in all this was a great place. Looking forward to going again.
Went here for dinner for the first time after living in the area for 30+ years. I can honestly say I understand why this place has been around so long.
The establishment itself was amazing. Located right off 107 with plenty of parking. The ambiance and decor were great. It was kind of like mixing an old 1920s style restaurant with a newer mote casual dining experience. I especially loved some of the old pictures of Hicksville on the walls.
For starters, we did the baked clams and the fried zucchini flowers. The clams had great flavor and were clearly more than just bread and clam which was a nice change. The zucchini flowers were even better. Fried perfectly and just the right amount of cheese. A nice change from your run of the mill appetizer.
For the main, we got chicken cordon bleu, Marinated flat iron steak, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The sides were good as expected. The chicken had a great breaded crust but was still juicy inside. The ham and cheese inside were bursting with flavor, as was the sauce on the chicken.. The steak was cooked perfectly. Tender and flavorful with a great portion size. My only complaint was that it was a but cold. I’m sure the waiter could have solved this but we decided to just eat.
All together, great experience. Will be back here for sure.
For drinks we got coke and water. They first got us some fresh warm bread. Shortly after, our food arrived, it was pretty but I think the portion was kind of small for the steak. Food was alright. Or maybe I just had high expectations- it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing!
One thing that truly impressed us was their digital-menu: Like you scan the barcode for it, and it opens up a link via Safari / Mobile browser. I thought that was pretty cool. They called it the contact-less menu.
As for dessert, we decided to try the Tartufo – which was a chocolate shell with vanilla ice cream and some cherry goodness on the inside. Again, pretty decent, nothing out of the world-ish.
Extremely impressed with the service, but food was just not up-to-my expectations!
The staff was very nice and the service was terrific. Our waiter Kevin was very accommodating as well as friendly.
My Manhattan was excellent, my filet mignon was good and the wine choices were also good.
It is a very comfortable and clean restaurant. I just wish that the food could have been better all around.
Where it fell short for us was on a number of dishes.
The appetizers were ok. The calamari was chewy and not crisp. The baked brie was decent enough.
The other main dishes were average.. My wife’s shrimp pasta was flat and my dad’s chicken Parm was ordinary.
I’m sure the standard pub fare is good. As I stated, my beef was good. Perhaps next time, we should get the burgers instead.
I was hoping for more……
