My wife and I were in Jefferson for the day and decided to get something to eat. A few of the places we googled were closed, so we decided to try Mugs. We are so glad we did!
It’s a little storefront on a main street through town with a dozen booths along the walls and another couple sets of larger tables in the center. The place was pretty full when went in, but we took an open booth along one wall (seat yourself!). Our waitress, Sherie, was busy at another table, but acknowledged us and told us she’d be with us in a few moments. True to her word, she came over and got our drink orders within a few moments.
We had a couple minutes to look at the menu before she returned with our drinks. There is a fair selection of American-style sandwiches, pizzas, and breakfast items. Breakfast is served all day. The prices were very reasonable and we were amazed to learn they had just raised their prices a few months earlier.
I ordered cheesesticks for an appetizer. They were gooey, stretchy, and were served hot and fresh within a few minutes of ordering them. I ordered an Italian meatball sandwich with onion rings and my wife ordered a Reuben sandwich.
Both were served quickly and..oh, my! They were delicious! My wife is a little picky about Reubens, but said this was the best she had eaten in a while. The chips were also crispy and not in the least bit stale. My meatball sandwich was just about perfect — not too much marinara sauce, plenty of cheese, and toasted just right. The onion rings were also very crispy and appeared to be hand-breaded (but I won’t swear that they were). Either way, they stayed nice and crispy throughout the meal.
We asked Sherie (our waitress) about the slogan on the coffee mug, “A dish of abuse is our specialty.” Sherie said they “like to have fun with their regulars,” including shenanigans such as shooting Nerf guns or water pistols at “the regulars.” She said the restaurant can get “a little wild” during the weekday lunch hours. It sounds like a fun place to be!
All told, we had our fill of good food and hot tea and walked out for under $30!
We’ll be back, and next time, we’re bringing friends!!!
Parking in back, if street parking is full.
Will visit here next time in the area
