The food was delicious and is not tex-mex . It was authentic Mexican food. The place has Mexico vibe in it. The owner greeted us and talked to us after we ate. He saw our plates were empty and he was happy about it .That means we were satisfied and full. It is affordable to dine here especially if you are in a budget like me . The server kept checking on us too. I definitely recommend this place. We went there weekday and it was not busy. They have karaoke every Saturday too.

As a truck driver, my boyfriend and I, both truckers, make sure to eat natural food. Being a pescatarian, I prefer healthy options. I had corn tacos with onion, tilapia, and avocado. He had grilled chicken with rice beans and avocado, without cheese. Both dishes were delicious!

I was recently recommended a spot that I’ve never even heard of and now I’m finding myself wishing I’d go restaurant exploring more often lol. Today I had the absolute pleasure of eating at El Norteño Mexican Restaurant.
One thing that really stood out to me was the way I greeted when I first walked in. An older gentleman walked up to me and said hi as he stuck his hand out to shake mine. He then told me I could sit wherever I’d like. I later found out that he was the owner.
Shortly after sitting down, I went over the menu and decided on an entree. The Enchiladas Suiza. They brought some chips and salsa out shortly before I ordered my food. The chips were excellent and so was the salsa.
Not even 10 or 15 minutes after ordering and my food was already coming out. I jumped right in and I honestly didn’t stop until that plate was clean. The food was really that good. The enchiladas had an amazing green sauce and some melted cheese on top. The chicken inside the enchilada was definitely seasoned and surprisingly falling apart tender. Even the rice and beans had a unique, but delicious flavor to them.
Although I know I shouldn’t have, I asked what they had for dessert. The owner told me about their Happy Donut. He described it as a deep fried Mexican donut with ice cream on top. I had to ask for no chocolate drizzle on mine (thanks COVID). It came out shortly after. The donut itself had the perfect texture to it. Nice and crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The contrast of the warm donut and the cold ice cream was just what I needed.
Overall I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some great authentic Mexican food. The owner seems like a great person, who’s obviously dedicated and passionate about what he does. It was very nice getting to speak with him. I also noticed that he treated everyone with the same level of kindness. From shaking peoples hands as soon as they walked in to going up to tables multiple times and checking on them.

UPDATED TO ADD: This restaurant posts numerous pictures of other restaurants’ food and makes it seem like it’s there’s. You will NOT get this same quality of food that you are seeing in the pictures. Do a reverse search on this places food they post on Facebook, and most of them will belong to a different restaurant. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Horrible horrible management. My husband and were looking for a new place to eat and unfortunately we chose here due to it being right down the street from where we live. This establishment says they are open until 10, which they are not. When we arrived at the restaurant it was before 9 pm. I thought we had over an hour which is great. There was not one person inside the restaurant so I knew we would be in and out fast. The waitress seemed a little irritated, which I didn’t understand at first, but now I realize it’s because everywhere online says this restaurant is open until 10, but they close at 9. So when we arrived they should have actually been closing. I would never go to a restaurant right when they are closing. When we were leaving the establishment well before 10, we let the owner know the food was great and we’d be back. All he said was “yes we close at 9/920”. I called the restaurant the next day to apologize for coming in so late, and let them know that the website says they are open until 10. The owner of this restaurant actually went off on me until the point where I was crying. He said I had no compassion for the employee he had making her stay late when she was sick, saying he’s the owner and he gets to choose when they close daily, things of that nature. I told him I had no clue why he was going off on me when I called to apologize for coming in so late, and notify them they may need to update their website. I asked my husband to come in the room while I was on the phone with the owner, and then the owner started apologizing and asking us to come back. I do not know if he is just sexist, if he is racist, or what it is. Then after ending the call because I was so upset, the owner tried to call me again. I called back to him and he again was apologizing asking us to come back, saying he was the owner and needs more workers, etc. I can now see why he needs more workers if this is how he treats people. While telling him why I was upset and why I would not be coming back, he handed the phone over to a waitress instead of talking to me about the issues. I apologized to the waitress because this is not her problem to deal with. Anyways, if you’re looking for tacos in the area, please go to Soccer Tacos down the road. You would never get treated this way by that establishment.

Me and my boyfriend decided to try this place tonight and it was amazing! we definitely came close to closing but the staff was super polite & attentive. The owner came out to speak and thank us for coming. We ordered the gorditas fritas & it was a good portion for a good price! We will absolutely be back

I came here with my family . I’m not one to review but my experience here was trash. All the food was bomb except for my dish my dish was trash & trash customer service. I ordered the super burrito, my burrito was almost empty from the inside just couple pieces of meat & big chunks of onion & green bell peppers. Wich I told the waitress about instead of apologizing & offering me another dish for the same price or trying to solve the issue , she was just being arrogant & saying that’s how burritos come, I’m used to burritos having rice, beans, salsa, meat inside but she continued to be rude about it she asked we can remake you the same dish I was understanding about n I said okay. Then the new burrito came out muchhhh better , the owner came out apologizing wich I appreciate. But then I go & cut into the burrito & I find a full bell pepper piece with the sticker still on I pointed it out laughing about it , trying not to make a big deal about cuz for me it wasn’t a big deal just trying to make a joke about the situation & the waitress rolled here eyes & got mad n said omg & when I told the owner about it he tried to justify it by saying they use edible stickers like WHAT?! anywho I tried to be funny about it, they were rude & just unacceptable. & to top it off owner asked what kind of work I do wich I told him that I worked at a restaurant , been in the food industry all my life & even I know that’s such an unacceptable way to treat paying customer never coming back here again.

Excellent, highly underrated restaurant! All the food is fantastic, you get a good amount, and the price is fair. The service has always been great, and the owner of the restaurant is so sweet and always greets us personally and thanks us for coming! The atmosphere is great in there, and we honestly can’t recommend it enough and feel it’s the best Mexican restaurant in Tyler. Well worth your visit and the money! 🙂
