Overall this spot has terrific “dirty” sushi rolls that are amazing and taste fresh! All the rolls we had were great! However, expect slow or inconsistent service and just an okay environment.
//CONTEXT//
Came here on a Friday evening as a party of two. Found a seat immediately
//ENVIRONMENT//
Honestly the environment felt a bit sad. There was no music, it was super quiet and just not a typical restaurant environment. Even when I ordered I went up and had to write down my order on their receipt lol.
//SERVICE//
The service was really slow. I understand that rolls take a while to make and they have a lot of takeout orders but I would hope they’d improve based on what they’re seeing. Here are some examples:
– When we got there, there was another couple who already ordered and was waiting for their food. Three other parties came in and we all got their food before them. This couple never got their food, had to check and then waited more and then just left. We were there for 45 mins before we got there so they were waiting even longer.
– Another party got their food before we did and we ordered before them. Also it was interesting in that this person got their order placed with the owner but we had to write our order down
– As mentioned it took us about 45 minutes for 3 rolls. I thought this was kind of long.
//FOOD//
Food was amazing! If you can get past the wait the rolls are so good! They’re fresh, tasty and not too large or too small! I got the Akron, Newport, and the Juneau! These were all so good! The tempura and fried soft shell crab was perfectly crispy and not soggy at all. The fish tasted so fresh! The Newport did lack a bit of ponzu. Aside from that these were great rolls
Overall, the rolls were good but the service and wait does make me hesitant to come back.

Best sushi I’ve had in years. Just look at how finely those scallions are chopped! The chef takes his craft seriously, so expect to wait for your dishes to arrive. It’s well worth it.

Great food, cozy atmosphere. They have an original baked dish for those who prefer cooked seafood, that I’ll definitely be coming back for! It’s called Dover, or Olympia, imagine egg and seafood baked over rice and seaweed topped with sushi sauce, incredible.

Have gone to Sushi Maki a couple times, each time doesn’t disappoint! There rolls are big but yet so filling and delicious! The owner a sweet man too and gave me and my friends free miso since it was a late cold day. I love this place it’s so affordable but yet so food! Wish they had some music playing in the background because it is quiet and cramp in there

Decided to have sushi for dinner and stumbled across this place. The store was boarded up completely, turns out someone drove through their store and robbed them. Nonetheless I proceeded to head inside and was happy to see an excellent health rating by king county. As I sat down I was greeted by a very sweet waitress I orded everything she recommended and I have to say it everything was good! The first roll in my picture seemed like the sushi melted in my mouth, but had a crunch from the fried shrimp and cucumber. It was pretty spicy didn’t help that I added heaps of wassabi. The second roll was the best it was a blast of flavors one of the best rolls I’ve ever had. By the time I got to the third roll I was already full! But had to finish and the third roll was just fine. Least favorite of the previous rolls. I sat for awhile and was only asked if I needed something once from a different server who kinda had an attitude. Overall I enjoyed my time.

Will not go back.
Walked in and immediately the smell of dirty fryer oil hit us. There was a faint blue hue of fryer smoke in the air as well. Service was about on par with how you are treated at a fast food restaurant.
Food was OK taste-wise, but they were very loosely wrapped and practically fell apart when you picked them up. Also some pieces were very thin and impossible to pick up with chopsticks (each piece collapsed with the slightest squeeze.

Sushi Maki is a delicious sushi restaurant. They were takeout only during the pandemic, but now they are open again for dine in service. If you think the prices are a little higher, do not fear, they are absolutely worth it as this is authentic sushi with great service. You won’t be disappointed , check out their specialties menu along with the classics.

Maki has taken custom orders for us twice and has astounded us both times. The quality and attention to detail for the sushi here is really impressive. It’s undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in Burien, and rivals more expensive sushi in Bellevue. The owner and his wife are kind souls, too.
