A fantastic spot for Indian and South Asian food in New Plymouth! We were really impressed with the variety on the menu. For a city like New Plymouth, where dining out can sometimes feel a bit pricey compared to bigger cities, Flame is very decently priced.
The portion sizes are generous and definitely worth the cost. Everything was delicious, the restaurant itself was clean and had a great ambiance, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
The only small suggestion we have is for takeaways – it would be great if they offered family packs for dishes like biriyani. This would be perfect for customers wanting larger portions for a family meal at home.
Overall, a great experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Finally, a great Indian find in New Plymouth! We were skeptical at first, but the Kadhai Paneer was exceptional, definitely the standout dish. The Paneer Tikka Masala was also good, and though it didn’t quite match the Kadhai Paneer in flavor, this place is still miles ahead of the competition.

Food was good, though nothing special. The cheese garlic naan was either plain garlic or the order was understood wrongly by the waitress. But overall the food is okay.

We’ve been coming here for 18 years, and the food has always been amazing. The only thing worth mentioning is the spice level — I usually order medium at most places, but here I order mild because their medium is a little hotter than elsewhere. The mild is absolutely perfect. Flame Indian in New Plymouth is hands down the best Indian curry we’ve ever had, and we’ve eaten at a lot of places.

Firstly, thank you for being open late.
I have tried their baigan bharta and it was one of the best I have had when comparing it to mainstream Indian takeaways/restuarants. Their chilli chicken was nice but while the chicken 65 was far away from flavours of chicken 65, the taste was nice and was fresh. Not your typical twice fried with more coating than chicken.
Went there twice so definitely would go with different perception but flavour food. Thank you team

We had a wonderful dining experience at flame last night, they catered to our dietary needs and substituted coconut cream for dairy cream. The meals were absolutely stunning. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was wonderful with all the lights we will be dining there again. And just to make the experience even better the prices were considerably cheaper than other Indian restaurants in new Plymouth.

I’ve visited many restaurants in New Plymouth, and most of them were quite disappointing. However, my experience at The Flame was completely different. The food was excellent, and the staff were clear, friendly, and professional. I really appreciated the way they communicated and provided great service. Overall, both the food and the staff were outstanding.

The food was outstanding—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautifully presented. Every dish tasted thoughtfully prepared. The service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. Our server checked in at the perfect times and made great recommendations. Highly recommended

We went for a dinner.
Ordered a light meal.
Samosa for starters , some mocktails , followed up with paneer kulcha and some prawns & ended with masala-chai.
Now, iam from India, here for just 2 days , so the critique will be but tough.
Samosa – great texture and built. Inside masala nice , but didn’t pack a punch. Low on salt.
Paneer kulcha- actually turned out to be more like soft paneer parantha. Bread was soft and not tandoori like out of a Bhatti/tandoor.
Chai was the best , perfect milk and tea-leaves combination and the masala.
However , it’s also known that Indian restaurants, in foreign countries , tone down a bit in the flavour to adjust to the local palate, so it’s still a good place to go if you are a localite in NZ.
Service was good. Ambience was soft and cozy, Open and not congested.

We are big on eating Indian and the Flame is right up there with the best. We ordered Takeaways due to time constraints and the service and food was spot on. Loved it and highly recommend the Flame…
