First exsperance left us feeling like family. House made sauces and dressings as well as an exclusive gluten free fryer for a great selection of food options. Was already planning the next visit before the meal was even over. Live music events and Happy hour specials.

Ok, 38 West Pub & Grille IS the proverbial Diamond in the rough! The food is amazing, the service is 1st class and the atmosphere is perfect for casual dining. If you are within 30 miles of this place, it is a must go in your Maine restaurant trips. They have an expansive bar, great beer selection & plenty of room in the dining area.

To advertise as a Irish pub is a embarrassment to the Irish. Went for a date night on a night they advertise online and on the table as “ladies” night. Not one special for ladies and the waitress just told me they used to have a special for tacos on ladies night but don’t anymore. Come on.. tacos? At a Irish pub? And not even a discount on the ladies beer? That’s just one rant.. they have barely any Irish dishes on their menu and French fries cost more than an expensive brew at $10. Appetizer was cold, and dishes were disappointing for price. Will never go again, let alone a nice date night. I will say the waitress was on point and friendly but the bartender before we left made me uncomfortable while eating her food at the bar staring at us.

Very nice staff. Clean and friendly place. 2 burgers we ordered were extremely ruined by being overly well done. Struggled to eat 1/2. Flavor was good with the bbq sauce, bacon and rings. Too bad the “cook” had to decimated, ruin the meat. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.
Had soda, 1 beer and swapped out regular fries for sweet potatoes for one and rings for other. Bill was just over $60.

This is the second time I’ve been here. Absolutely love it! The live music was great tonight. Had some lemonades, the Lamb Burger with their russet potato fries and honey mustard, and got an appetizer. Ordered the small serving of Irish Nachos and then added corned beef. My new favorite appetizer. I’ve had the Irish Quesadilla too, but I think the Nachos are better. Good parking, great service. Can’t wait to try more items!

We visited for the first time last night and it certainly won’t be the last. We ordered beef tips and shepherd’s pie, both were rich and yummy. Citizen Cider is our favorite cidery in New England so always a plus to see it on draft. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is small town cozy. Lots of parking. Other reviews have said it’s pricey for the area, but it’s less expensive than The River and the food is way better. If we want tavern fare close to home this will be our new go-to.

Walked in as a party of two and got seated immediately near the entrance.

No one acknowledged or talked to us for 20 minutes, no water so we left. This is an old people bar, if you are a millennial or Gen-Z expect little to no service. The lady did follow us out and say sorry as we left.

Too bad, the menu made the food sound really good, and the atmosphere was lively.

Went to Kirin instead

Nice to have her back and the place open again.

We have been going to this same location since Jane opened it as Sullie’s Pub & Grill many years ago. It was smaller and excellent then and it is much bigger and nearing excellence again, having just opened a month ago.

She ran the original pub in a single family home converted into a restaurant and bar. The food was excellent and we brought many a friend a relative to dine there. Sometime, in the early teens she sought to expand the place, ran into a bunch of hurdles, we believe, and she moved on. Then Woody’s took over and expanded the restaurant and parking lot. Covid took its toll and Woody moved on, and another owner operated it with the same sports bar atmosphere. It languished when he could not staff it.

Now Jane is back in the saddle again. Renovations have been made, the interior spruced up, and a bit of a woman’s touch has been added to the place, as well as an Irish flavor to the menu choices. The addition, which was never fully utilized by the interim operators has now been converted to dining space, which I suspect will be fully utilized once the word gets out, the weather improves, and the summer tourist invade Maine again.

Our first meals were good, our subsequent ones even better as the opening kinks were worked out. Funny story: my wife thought they messed up her Haddock Rachel sandwich and they had given her a haddock dinner instead. As it turned out, on closer inspection, the piece of haddock was so big, it completely obliterated the normal sized bun beneath it.

Last but not least, the wait staff and bartenders are very pleasant and accommodating and Jane can be seen pitching in

We look forward to many more IPAs, Margaritas, and fine meals at 38 West. We have no qualms about bringing family and friends along when the occasion arises. We wish Jane and her team all the success and accolades that they deserve. “Laughter is brightest where food is the best”. Slainte!

I have had the pleasure of eating here for lunch and dinner on a few occasions. The food, service and atmosphere is always great. Yesterday we held a Celebration of Life event here. Jane and her staff out did themselves. They served us a variety of the most delicious food with wonderful service. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a great meal or hold an event, 38 West will not disappoint. I can’t thank them enough for all they did ~ Laura

Stopped today for lunch, our first time here. Paula behind the bar was great. We got there early , so we had a few minutes to talk with Paula and her sister, Jane, the owner. Wonderful people and a nice clean and cozy place. Food was pretty good, we had blackened haddock tacos, fries and a pretty good salad. As people drifted in for lunch, it was obvious everyone else was a regular. Good Sign !
It’s about an hour from our house, but worth the trip. We will be back.
