Mama Lu’s Dumpling House in Alhambra is always a solid choice when I’m craving Shanghainese comfort food. The xiao long bao were juicy and flavorful with delicate wrappers, and the steamed fish with scallions was perfectly tender and light. We also ordered the beef roll, salt & pepper style meat with mushrooms, sautéed snow peas, and the salted egg yolk shrimp — everything came out generous in portion and great for sharing. The flavors were balanced, not overly greasy, and the service was fast even though it was busy. Definitely a go-to spot in SGV for dumplings and classic Chinese dishes.

A friend gathering that won’t disappoint—an entire table for under $100.

Found a super good-value Chinese meal in Alhambra, LA, and I had to write it down.
We ordered a full spread: chive pockets, wontons in chili oil, French-style beef tenderloin, crispy shrimp balls, steamed cod, and garlic Chinese broccoli.
The highlight? Everything together was under $100—honestly surprising.

The chive pockets were pan-fried just right with a generous filling.
The chili oil wontons had a mild kick without overpowering the flavor, and the portion was solid.
The beef tenderloin was very tender with a light, clean seasoning.
The crispy shrimp balls were crunchy outside and bouncy inside—perfect for both kids and adults.
The steamed cod was fresh and delicate, simple but well done.
The garlic broccoli was fragrant without being greasy, a great balance with the meat dishes.

Overall, it was one of those no-miss, comfortable meals that makes both your stomach and wallet happy.
Perfect for group dinners or family meals—would definitely come back again.

Lunar New Year is coming! Struggling to find a family spot that all generations and even your extended family will approve of? Mama Lu’s has you covered.

Walking in and seeing the giant xiao long bao mural, we immediately had to order it and it was so fulfilling . Of course, I didn’t forget my favorite French-style beef 法式牛柳粒, very juicy and done the Cantonese way. Need a carb that’s more special than noodles or rice? The Shanghai rice cakes 上海炒年糕 are the answer . To complete the meal, the older generation always requests the string beans 乾煸四季豆 because no veggies means the meal isn’t complete .

They have private room seating too

I’m so glad this location tastes just like the MPK spot. Love the tea and peanuts they serve right when you sit down. The XLB were super juicy, and the sautéed string beans were served in a huge portion. I also tried the rice cake, which had the perfect chewiness.

When I asked to box my leftovers, the worker boxed them up for me, which I appreciated. There’s parking in the back, which makes it super convenient.

Such an excellent restaurant! Packed with locals even on weeknights — always a good sign. The menu is huge and super affordable, with generous portions and authentic flavors. The dishes come out hot and fresh, full of wok hei and perfectly seasoned. Loved everything we tried, especially the crispy fish and fried rice. Great spot for family dinners or casual get-togethers — definitely coming back!

Mama Lu’s in Alhambra is easily one of my favorite spots for authentic Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley. The dumplings are the star—juicy, flavorful, and always fresh—but the rest of the menu is just as good. The Singapore noodles were perfectly seasoned with the right amount of spice, the fish was tender and delicious, and the scallion pancakes were crisp and flaky.

Portions are generous, perfect for sharing family-style, and the service is quick and attentive even when the restaurant is busy. The food comes out hot, fresh, and consistently tasty every time.

If you’re looking for amazing dumplings plus classic dishes like noodles, fish, and scallion pancakes, Mama Lu’s in Alhambra is a must-visit. Can’t wait to come back!

Loving the new location in Alhambra. Always a fan of Mama Lu’s Dumplings House. They’re known for their Juicy pork dumpling and other family style entrees.
The juicy dumplings and pan fried dumplings are a must to order. Flavor pork fillings. It’s absolutely the best.
I tried their new item on the menu. golden shrimps. It’s similar to walnut shrimps but with wonton chips.
Sweet and Sour chicken is one of my favorite and go to. I love the sweet and sour sauce crispy chicken.

This location is a lot bigger than the Monterey park Location. It can definitely accommodate large parties. And service is great and quick. I’m already seeing a lot of people coming in for dinner.

The popularity of Mama Lu’s has finally made its way to Alhambra. With reasonable prices, a spacious dine-in area, and consistently good flavors, it is well suited for family gatherings as well as meals with friends. We ordered the walnut shrimp, chive pockets, steamed cod, and black pepper beef cubes—all of which were excellent. The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Highly recommended, five stars.

I always love coming to mama lus! It looks like this location is very updated on the inside. Of course the XLB are always my favorite item and never disappoint. I was really surprised by how much i liked the kung pao shrimp as well since it’s not usually something I order. The Singaporean noodles were such a unique dish and I’ve never had them like that before! The food came out within 10-15 minutes and I left stuffed!

Came here with friends craving Seafood Pan-Fried Noodles –hard to find in LA, but Mama Lu’s nails it. The crispy noodles stay crunchy under a rich seafood & veggie sauce, soft and crisp in every bite. Other standouts: juicy pork dumplings, deep fried prawn balls, french style beef tenderloin and perfectly steamed fish. Great for group dining with reliable flavors and a signature dish worth showing off.
