Great tasting food, hot and fresh, and a fun atmosphere!!! Probably the best tasting fried mushrooms I’ve ever had. We have been here twice so far, and had a great experience each time. Friendly employees that engage in a conversation rather than pretend they are listening. I love the inspirational notes that they write on their bags. Definitely worth checking out.

The fish and chips were great. I received two nice large tasty pieces of hot fish with plenty of tartar sauce and lemon slices to accompany them. The twisted chips were very good as well- kind of a spiraling potato wedge. Very delicious. The clam chowder was also good, thick enough to stand a spoon up in as demonstrated in the photo below. The staff were friendly. Both the girl working at the counter and the cook came out to check if we were happy with our food (which we were). Would definitely recommend this place and I will absolutely be returning.

Some local people recommended this restaurant as having excellent fish and chips. I’m not sure what they are accustomed to but for us, the fish was tasteless and the chips (fries) were bland. Even the vinegar was tasteless. It’s serve yourself, which we don’t mind as long as the food is good. Very disappointed.

Best fish n chips I’ve had in forever. Fish was lightly battered and there was actually fish in it. Instead of just batter.

Absolutely loved the “chips” and the fry was excellent. Went with the 1 fish, 4 prawns and chips basket, a fish taco, and fried pickles. Fish was good, prawns were juicy and flavorful (cocktail sauce was a meh, not spicy enough and too thin). The breading definitely showcased their expertise. Maybe go with the light batter on the fish and skip the prawns next time. The taco was a little hard to manage.
I did take it home and it would’ve been better fresh out of the fryer. I just can’t get over the fry on the fish and pickle chips though. And the portion size was excessive, but I’ve serving would probably be enough for 2 people.
The young lady at the counter was helpful and patient. She answered questions and didn’t push for anything.
Definitely a local favorite, and the decor was nice, but everything looked a little old and somewhat worn out.

Great First Visit to Portside
We stopped into Portside for the first time and were immediately impressed. The place smelled fresh and clean—which is always a good first sign. The young man at the register was super friendly and got us started with an order of the Fish and Chips basket and a side of fried mushrooms.
The atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly. You could tell people were really enjoying themselves. One of the guys from the kitchen even came out a few times to wish guests a blessed day, which was such a kind, personal touch.
Our mushrooms came out first, and wow—what a huge portion! They were hot, crispy, and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. Then came the coleslaw, which was so tasty I almost wanted to lick the cup—it was that good.
Now, I’m not usually big on fish, but their fish and chips totally won me over. The batter was flavorful and crunchy, and the fish inside was light, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Both my partner and I couldn’t stop talking about how good everything was.
We also had a chance to meet Melissa, the owner. She was so kind and clearly takes a lot of pride in her restaurant. Between the amazing food, the friendly staff, and the fun, nautical decor, Portside really made a great impression. We’ll definitely be back—and we highly recommend it to others!

I’m definitely going back. I tried the oysters and fries, but brought them 15 minutes home. All was still warm and VERY crispy with fresh flavor.

Great place to tame your cravings for fish & chips. I highly recommend the calamari as well. The breaded fish and calamari are flavorful and freshly made when you make your order. The tartar taste amazing and it enhances the flavor even more. The people tending the place have of the best attitudes towards their customers and that makes you feel very welcomed.
