Very family oriented restaurant. One of owners came out and checked on our table to see everything was okay.
The atmosphere was very cozy with great, nostalgic decor. Perfect lighting as well.
The food was good and so was the service.
We just had a little issue with one of our orders which was taken care of.
The coleslaw was the only reason I did not rate a 5 star on the food. It wasn’t the tastiest, too much vinegar or whatever sauce was in there.
Otherwise, highly recommend when in the area.

Ashley B was awesome! So friendly and energetic and informative! Food was so good!!!! Beyond what we were hoping for and such large portions, we could have shared, but we didn’t want to miss things, though we’ll have to return again and again to taste it all!! Highly recommend!! It’s a do not miss place to go when in Charleston, SC!

I’m not sure what can be said about Hyman’s that hasn’t already been said. It is truly deserving of the excellent rating you see everywhere. This was positively the best meal I had while in Charleston and one of the best meals I have ever had. Beside that, the atmosphere of service and friendliness makes you feel so comfortable and at home! While we were eating at the Donald Glover / Barbara Streisand table, the owner (Tobias) even came by and talked to us and thanked us for making them part of our trip. This was a hugely memorable place to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we will be back again and again!

Absolutely divine! Everyone was so nice and friendly the entire time, start to finish. Clifton was our waiter and he was amazing and the best waiter I’ve ever had. He was quick and very helpful with questions we asked him. The manager also came to our table and was very kind and welcoming. This place is very family oriented and you can feel the positive energy as soon as you walk in the door! 10/10 Love this place

The owner is present, really cares about his business, and is getting his son on the track to continue the path of 4 generations! That is pure value of a business in my eyes.
Service was a bit pushy on promoting the business on social media and rate on google, but it was ok.
Food was delicious!! Plentiful and well presented.
We liked broiled fish the best although they are big on their fried fish.
Value for money is perfect given the portions.

We had such a wonderful time! The food was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was fun!
The hush puppies were the best we’ve ever had! They were moist and had an awesome honey flavor to them.
We shared the she crab Soup that was wonderful. It had a nice sherry flavor to it. Plus they brought extra sherry out if we wanted it.
We also shared the fried oysters, which were nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The muscles with the parmesan cream sauce is to die for! We’re taking our oysters and dipping them into the cream sauce.
The Chilean Seabass croquette was perfectly broiled, and was very moist and tasty.
We definitely will be going back!

It was our first visit to Hyman’s, and we would absolutely go back. Our waitress was exceptional, and Mr. Hyman even stopped by our table—he was friendly and happy to answer our questions. The sea bass croquette was divine, and the fried flounder, triple tail, and bourbon-glazed Brussels sprouts were all outstanding. Every employee we encountered had a great attitude. I’ve heard there’s always a wait, but it’s definitely worth it.

The BEST Experience I have EVER had in a Restaurant! My kids took me there for my Birthday, and the entire staff was Exceptional! Shoutout to Victor Hyman who made our experience unlike no other. This is now our favorite Restaurant in Charleston.

We chose this place because it was walkable from our hotel, had dishes that we liked and had great reviews. Hyman’s deserves every good review they get. Admittedly it was before 5 pm so the wait was very short, but we were seated quickly with water and hush puppies. I ordered a cup of the gumbo and the appetizer portion of Carolina Delight. I make terrific gumbo but this was better. And Carolina Delight has ruined me for traditional shrimp and grits. Hubs ordered fried grouper with potato wedges and slaw. Did we hate leaving food on the table because we could not finish it? Yes we did. Hyman’s is dinged from a five because more water and receiving the check were extraordinarily slow but that gave us time to visit with the next table. Meanwhile the owner and I chatted about soups and he brought a sample of their clam chowder. So now which do I order next time? Daniel the manager had made an earlier appearance. And an earlier impression. We are big fans of Hyman’s. Beware for old youngsters like us… there are stairs to the second level, but we had no trouble. There is also downstairs seating.

We had such a great experience during our short trip that we stopped by twice! Thousands and thousands of positive reviews weren’t wrong! Not only was the food fresh and delicious, but it was an extremely great value with the price and portions given! They have a big menu where everyone in the family will find something they’ll like. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. This is also one of the very few places where not just a manager, but an owner, walked around and personally made sure we had a good experience. I read a few negative reviews about incentivized feedback and I’m not sure what they’re referring to because nobody ever mentioned or asked us to leave a review (nor did we see it posted anywhere that was visible). We will most definitely recommend it to anyone that visits, and will make sure to go back ourselves next time we’re in Charleston. What a local gem!
