Went for lunch today with a friend and was disappointed. The issue began when my coconut margarita arrived. I order this same drink every time I eat there, so I know how it normally tastes and looks. This one appeared chunky and separated, and after tasting it, it honestly tasted like canned coconut water with chunks floating in it and no detectable tequila.

I stirred it thinking it just wasn’t mixed, but it still tasted extremely off. My friend tried it and had the same reaction. For comparison, I tried her Pink Cactus margarita, which clearly tasted like a properly made margarita with tequila, so I knew something was wrong with mine.

When the waitress brought our food, I politely explained that the drink didn’t taste right and asked if she could just take it back, letting her know I was happy to switch to water. She offered to remake it, but I declined because I didn’t want to risk paying for another drink that I might not enjoy. She then insisted on bringing me tequila shots, which I said I didn’t want twice, but she brought out two shots anyways. My friend tried adding one to my drink to see if it would help , but it honestly made the drink worse so I didn’t drink it at all.

Later, another waitress took over our table. When we received the check, the margarita was included. I explained the drink situation, including that the drink wasn’t touched besides two sips of trying it and that I had spoken to the previous waitress about it. I was surprised when I was told there is a strict “no modification” rule and that if you order something, you must pay for it. I didn’t argue at all and paid, but it was disappointing, especially when I’ve since seen owner responses to other reviews stating they are happy to refund items customers did not enjoy.

This review is not about the money. It’s about customer experience and how situations are handled. I’ve happily paid for many meals and drinks before and never had a complaint. I also noticed another guest during our visit expressing dissatisfaction with their food, which added to the overall concern about consistency.

( first picture is their coconut margarita as advertised on Instagram and last 2 pictures is what I was served)

I was looking forward to this place as it has been on my list for a while and it was just blah. I went with a group and the waitress informed us that we can’t split the check. Weird but OK so 15 or so 1 person paid. I got 2 small tacos that had zero flavor, unseasoned steak, a tiny bit of green sauce, chopped onion, and a radish slice. They were not cheap either. Just no flavor. It was overall disappointing and with all of the authentic Mexican restaurants around now, I don’t need to venture back.

As a longtime, very loyal Pink Cactus customer, I was extremely disappointed by how I was treated this past Saturday.

I walked in holding a beer can after being unable to find a trash can outside. I fully acknowledge that I was in the wrong and immediately apologized and willingly handed it over when asked.

There was only one employee working, and we were patient and understanding. However, even before noticing the beer, she scowled at us and made us feel unwelcome. When I ordered a lime margarita pitcher and the trio, she told our entire table we needed to “sober up” before being served alcohol — even though no one else had been drinking, and I had only taken a couple of sips.

Despite apologizing and handing over the beer without hesitation, the comment was repeated, and we ultimately chose to leave and cancel our order. There was no acknowledgment of how we were spoken to or concern over losing loyal customers.

I truly love Pink Cactus and believe it’s some of the best Mexican food in Charleston. I eat here regularly and want to continue supporting the restaurant. While I regret my mistake, the way I was treated was not okay and made for a very upsetting experience

Response: Thank you for responding. I completely understand and respect your obligation to follow the law, and I acknowledged my mistake immediately.

My review was not about being denied service, but about the way we were spoken to and the assumptions made after we had apologized and complied. That interaction was upsetting, which is why I shared my experience.

I truly wish your business the best.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! Walked in, waited 15 min to put in order, first server pushed alcohol on us, but we probably needed it to get past the taste of the food. Outside was hot so we sat inside, no AC. Queso and chips were okay, some chips were still raw. We ordered the same thing, taco plate with steak, one plate was missing green sauce. Taco options only get corn tortillas, no flour tortillas. Steak was insanely dry, under seasoned, chewy. Rice was bland. One of us couldn’t even eat the meal because of the taste. Insanely overpriced food. Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy, waste of money.

I genuinely wanted to like this place after stumbling upon their Instagram . The vibe and Instagram say modern Mexican.

The birria tacos were so soggy they had the structural integrity of wet cardboard. 30$. No crisp, no texture, no flavor. The quesadilla was also soggy, which honestly takes talent.

Then there was the plating. Or lack of it.
Both the birria and quesadilla arrived in a plastic fast-food chain style basket. Where were the beautifully plated dishes shown all over IG?!

The real performance here deserves recognition though. Hats off to the social media manager. Truly elite work. You absolutely convinced us this was something it wasn’t. Whoever ran that one professional photoshoot is still carrying the entire brand on their back and frankly deserves a raise.

Cool name. Cool aesthetic. Incredible marketing. At Charleston prices, the gap between expectation and reality shouldn’t be this wide!

One star for the spicy coconut margarita that tried to save the night.

One star for marketing execution that deserves a case study.

Slow service and definitely not good for kids. We asked for the tacos to be plain for our son, were told they mostly were and that it’d be easy to remove any extra stuff from on top – definitely wasn’t the case. Also the nachos were gross and covered completely in this liquidy sour cream that my kids wouldn’t go near.

Had an awesome happy hour experience at the pink cactus this past week! I went with a group of friends after work and we got the spicy margaritas as well as the queso for the table. You really can’t get better than five dollars for food and reduced price margaritas after work!!! Great casual spot for drinks and yummy appetizers in Charleston!

A fun lunch spot. Had the birria tacos on a Thursday. They were made with ground beef instead of shredded but the flavor was good. The cheese dip had pepitas in it and we loved it!
