Husband and I went here for the first time. We seen authentic Mexican food and figured we couldn’t go wrong. We were wrong. staff was nice, salsa and chips tasted great! In the end I grabbed the taco salad bowl and he grabbed a type of burrito. The food came out very fast. My taco bowl already had so much grease the bottom of the bowl was soggy mess. My husband only had one complaint, the meat was greasy soggy and unflavored! The presentation of both the dishes came out amazing (wish I would have took a picture before starting) but that’s all I can say about my taco bowl. There was so much unflavored meat I couldn’t enjoy anything else. My husband said the beans and rice tasted good. Sorry I only give one star but I wish nothing but the best for your business!

El Vaquero has been in Alma for a couple of decades. The family that runs it is very friendly.
The food is one of the worst Mexican food offerings in Gratiot and Isabella Counties.
Service is fast and prompt. The meals are small. Plates are filled with lettuce and rice to make them look full. Overall bland taste.
The restaurant bought an old laundry mat and slapped some tables and chairs down. The decor hasn’t changed much from the first week they were open over 2 decades ago. Grimace everytime you walk in. Yikes.
Do not recommend.

This place is pretty much the sister restaurant of Los Palomino’s in Mt. Pleasant, which my family and I love. So ya, we had some pretty high expectations. And boy, did they meet them! Food, service, everything was good. Parents both got the Chili Relleno and I got the Pollo El Camino. According to them, it tasted good. My dad also got the homemade limeade, and he said it’s the best he’s ever had and would definitely recommend. My food was delightful, and the portions were great too. Our order were taken within seconds of setting our menus down, which was awesome. What really impressed me was how fast the food came out.
Overall, it was an awesome place to go eat and I’m glad that we decided to try it out. I also learned that they’re the same family that owns the Los Palomino’s, which explains why the atmosphere and menus are the exact same (minus the fact they don’t serve beer). Would absolutely recommend it!
Pictured is my Pollo El Camino.

LOVE the food. Love the service. The prices are way cheaper than Cancun Mexican Grill on the other side of town. I absolutely love their chips and salsa and wish that they were unlimited. But it does make sense from a business perspective. That is why the overall dinner price is cheaper than at other restaurants. I am not hungry when leaving. Great portions. Fast service.

Don’t be put off by the less-than-impressive appearance of the building. The food and service are excellent! I always enjoy my meals here. The combination plates are very good, and the nachos are delicious and super filling. Everyone who works here is nice, attentive and thoughtful; my water glass is always full. Two thumbs up!

We love this place. We have been here to eat at least 20 or more times. The food is very good. The family who owned and runs the restaurant provides superior service and personal attention. The food is consistent, fast, and always served hot. Who got quite a bit of variety, including horchata and a homemade limeade. We’ve never found the place to be so busy that we couldn’t get in quickly. Again we really like this place, and that’s why we keep coming back.

We love this place! The food is always delicious, served very quickly, and the servers and staff are the nicest! They are a small family owned business and you can tell that they love what they do. They don’t serve liquor, which is the only caveat, but for some that can absolutely be a plus!

They’re a nice family owned business and I love supporting them. They’re always so kind when we come. Their food is good and leans in the middle of American styled Mexican food and authentic Mexican. Their portions are usually just right if not a little big for a meal size so I’m satisfied!
