Suwan Thai Restaurant Hobart, Hobart, Australia – Reviews, Ratings …
Reviews
At first glance, some of the special dishes on the menu seemed quite expensive—but once the food arrived, it all made sense. The portions were extremely generous; one dish could easily be shared by two or even three people.
We ordered the soft shell crab curry, salted egg calamari, and Thai beef salad, and all of them were absolutely delicious. Great flavours, generous servings, and definitely worth the money.
Highly recommended!
I ordered Pad Kra Pao pork, but what arrived looked more like sliced pork with vegetables (Chinese Capcay), not the usual Pad Kra Pao. When I asked, the staff asked back whether I ordered “pork or minced pork”. I didn’t know there were two versions and it wasn’t explained when ordering The menu photo also shows the typical Pad Kra Pao.
They replaced the dish, which I appreciate, but the I feel like the size is smaller than the wrong one. Also the Pad Kra Pao didn’t come with the fried egg shown in the picture, apparently it’s an extra add-on
Taste was okay, but the first experience wasn’t great so I probably wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Also, the spring rolls were surprisingly tiny
It made us thought that the Thai food here in Tasmania is unbeatable and tried another high rating one the other night. It was good too. But both me and my husband agree that Suwan Thai is underrated!

I visited this restaurant based on its high rating on Google Maps, but I would rate it 4 stars for the following reasons:
* The first time we came, it was before 3 PM, but the restaurant was already closed, which was disappointing since we were hungry and excited to try it.
* On our second visit, I made a reservation over the phone, and the booking process and service were smooth and pleasant.
* Having tried many Thai restaurants in Brisbane, I feel that the ones there are still superior in terms of flavor and overall experience.
* The restaurant’s ambiance felt a bit outdated and quiet, which didn’t quite match the expectations set by its high ratings.
* The Pad See Ew had overly large chunks of broccoli, which wasn’t to my liking.
* On the bright side, their laksa was delicious and stood out as a highlight of the meal.
* Overall, the pricing felt a bit on the higher side for the experience offered.
While it didn’t completely meet my expectations, it’s still a decent spot to try if you’re in the area!
