We stopped by Asahi this afternoon for a middle of lunch/early dinner. There was just two of us, and I ordered the soft shell crab, appetizer and edamame. We got the Bulgogi and the teriyaki chicken which came with a soup and salad. You would think when you order an appetizer, you get that first. At Asahi you literally get everything all at one time. So everything that should stay warm, doesn’t because you just got hot soup, your appetizer, and your dinner order within the same four minutes. That is truly a dealbreaker when it comes to service and timing. There was no apology that the food was there within minutes all at once. They just don’t understand pacing I suppose. The softshell crab was gigantic, but not truly fresh or flavorful. We switched the miso soup for the mushroom soup, and that was probably the best item that we tried, but I did have to add some salt. I must say the Bulgogi was probably the worst interpretation of Bulgogi. It was very hard pieces of beef with a slightly Bulgogi flavor, but no sweetness. I feel like I’d tried this many years ago and it was not this bad. The quality of meat is very questionable. It’s tough and small little pieces. The sauce is wrong altogether. The chicken was flavorless. I think all their meat is cooked ahead of time, so that is why they are able to get it out in 5 minutes. Pre-cooked meat then they put a drizzle of teriyaki sauce on it. All in all very disappointing, and I will not be returning.

Great staff, very kind. We had a baby, and they really went out of there way to make sure we were comfortable. The price was actually really good too! Most of the time you spend over 100$ However we had two rolls and two meals for 60!

Asahi is the best Japanese Restaurant in Louisville. Not even close. We have been coming here for 4 years now and have continually had exceptional service, delicious food, and a relaxing time in the quaint environment. The owner introduced their new lunch special bento boxes! An affordable, delicious lunch and I could barely finish. They are continually growing and upgrading the restaurant – come check them out!

this might seem dramatic but I almost cried bc I was so happy with my experience here. there were two of us and we split everything: tuna tataki (even the garnishes were good), bulgoki (what in heavens is in the sauce? it also came with soup, salad and rice), and the monster roll (no soy sauce required). I also got an espresso martini that was incredible, made by our extremely kind and attentive server, Aung. everything came out at the perfect time. we literally sat down and ordered and it was a steady flow of courses. this is my new go to sushi spot and i’ll be recommending it to everyone i know

I had the spicy tuna tempura it was fresh and plated so nicely!
Also had the chicken fried rice! Which was also made to perfection.
You can watch them make the rolls. The service and host were amazing the checked in often but not too much where it was overwhelming.
Recommend very strongly

A lovely restaurant where everyone is treated like a guest. My go to for excellent sushi and entrees (the spicy pork meal has such delicious flavors). They have many options to choose from that has brought me back for years. Good vibes all around!

My husband loves Sushi so every couple of months we try out a new place. Definitely understand the high ratings for this place. The atmosphere is very cozy and romantic for a date night but also casual enough to go to with family or a friend. The staff is nice, informative and attentive. Lastly, the sushi here is top notch. An absolute must for authentic japanese cuisine. My husband said it’s one of the best he ever had. For reference he got a spicy California roll and their specialty popcorn lobster roll.

The food is absolutely amazing!! We were seated immediately and were one of the first there for dinner. It filled up very quickly after we placed our orders though and it took a while to get our meals and even longer to get take out containers when we were finished and ready to pay. Other than those issuesWE LOVED the restaurant and plan to go back soon!! Hopefully there will be more waiters working
