Perfect example of, don’t judge a book by its cover. The location is a little bit odd for a restaurant and the outside is barely noticeable as you’re driving through Coos Bay, OR on 101. I’ve driven by multiple occasions thinking I should try that place. Today I did. I went in for dinner. They’re open for lunch, then close and re-open for dinner at 4:30 (closed on Wednesday, all day). Nice, clean, well appointed atmosphere with soothing background music and ceiling fans. Great service. I ordered the lamb combination and was pleasantly surprised at the quantity as well as the unique and individual flavors of meal. The combo included a tasty little salad, a generous portion of brown rice and lamb, in a delightful sauce. Also included was a tasty bowl of rice pudding for dessert. All this for around $22. Looking forward to going back and trying the other items on the menu, which is quite extensive, sooner than later.

Unexpected find, fantastic food. Charming interior, friendly service, great menu. If you like Indian food, this place has my recommendation. And if you’re not acquainted, you really should try this place and ask your server for a recommendation. They definitely know flavor.

What a fantastic eatery! My husband is a newbie to Indian food, let alone Nepalese, but he is now a fan because of this wonderful restaurant. Our server was very friendly and gave wonderful suggestions on what and how to order (medium heat here is ok!). And the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala we shared were both delicious. The naan was really tasty as well. If we lived nearby we’d be regulars!

We’d been on the road for 3 or 4 days when we decided to eat here. My expectations weren’t necessary high. Then I had the lamb Tikka marsala & wow, it was love at first taste. The lamb biriani was excellent. The naan is some of the best I’ve had. I left disappointed because it’s almost an 8 hour drive from our house. If you’re thinking you should stay away because ethnic cuisine in smallish towns can be pretty sketchy, then you’d miss out on some really great food. Just go & thank me later

I honestly wasn’t expecting much of this place. The restaurant was closing in 30 minutes. As expected, the waitress wanted our order in quickly and we had to remind them we needed our rice. Regardless, the staff was still courteous and nice. The food was excellent and very authentic! (I love Indian food!) We’re just driving through, but I’d eat here again!

Really enjoyed my meal at Himalayan Restaurant! I love that they use olive oil in some of their dishes—it makes everything taste fresh without feeling heavy. Big points for offering brown rice and using organic greens in their salad and organic coconut milk in some their curries. The veggie combo was super tasty, and it’s great to see so many vegan-friendly options. You can really tell they care about using quality ingredients. The coconut milk kheer was fantastic—creamy and flavorful. I also appreciated that the food wasn’t overly greasy or salty. And the chili chicken? Grilled, not deep-fried—so healthy for my non-vegetarian partner

Highly recommended. Must NOT miss if in the area and have the tiniest liking for desi food.
Food is amazing, everything including samosas, chutneys, salad dressing made from scratch, impossible to miss the freshness. Lovely ambience, top notch service, the show on the front is run by the sweetest ladies.
Restrooms are spick and span.
Again, cant recommend enough.

This place is seriously overpriced and seriously overrated! The people were nice to an extent, I asked for a small side of sauce but they said I had to pay almost $10 for it after spending almost dollars $50 on two dishes! The tandoori ribs tasted more like barbecue ribs and the vegetables that came with it(bell peppers and onions) were undercooked and bland and the brown rice was bland and dry and they gave me all the rice in one container when I ordered two dishes? The other dish was the tandoori lamb but has no seasoning and no sauce at all! It was dry and bland as hell and tasted like it was frozen! I’ve been here before last summer, and I had the butter chicken, and it was very bland and not flavorful at all and the rice was dry and I could tell it wasn’t washed before it was prepared. I will not be returning to this place, I think these people in this small town have no idea what good Indian food taste like even though this is a Himalayan restaurant they serve Indian food, but they obviously have no idea what good Indian food is because this place Sucks.
