The first experience is the line. Not sure which line to stand in as no floor markings (here/to-go). There was a longer line on the left so I just went right but ended up waiting about the same amount of time. This was due to the cashier leaving to get drinks for a while. Also the cashier didn’t seem too happy to be there but hey it was Jan 1 and I know people drink on NYE so I can forgive that.
We ordered a couple of doubles and wanted to try both fries and rings.
The girl at the pickup window was much friendlier , and we got our food.
Of course it was hot and fresh.
But we were disappointed with the fries being mostly 1″ “hash browns” which makes it very difficult to dip into ketchup. The onion rings were similar but I can understand that onion rings sometimes do that. I ended up stacking some onion rings into my double burger to make up for it. But as soon as the rings cooled a bit, they kind of had the burnt taste.
The double burger was the best part of the meal. The atmosphere seemed good for lunch , and the arcade pinball machines give it that vibe. Overall decent but if you value sides with your meal, be cautious as you might get disappointed.
I went back for lunch today and tried the double cheeseburger and onion rings/straws and was very happy. I have always enjoyed the corn dogs, but you will not find a better cheeseburger anywhere. Fresh is the first word that comes to mind. Many places cook when ordered, but Hamby’s has it down.
You will not find a better corn dog or fries anywhere! The staff was very friendly and service was great. They have fun games to play and are still expanding. If you can’t tell by the picture of the kitchen, they do a great job with cleanliness and sanitation.
This is a great place for good tasting food prepared by people that care.
Hambys shows promise, but there’s room for refinement—especially considering the premium pricing. Quality and presentation should be front and center.
Order Experience:
We placed a to-go order for a Single, Double, and Triple burger, along with three orders of fries. The wait time was reasonable at 11 minutes.
Food Quality:
The fries were freshly cut, which is a plus, but they arrived slightly overcooked. As for the burgers, the flavor landed somewhere between Sonic and TPerry’s—not bad, but not standout either. Unfortunately, the presentation missed the mark. The burgers were assembled sloppily and lacked the clean, appetizing look you’d expect at this price point. Also worth noting: Hambys doesn’t offer combo meals—everything is à la carte, which adds up quickly.
Atmosphere:
The dining area was clean, but the lighting was dim and gave off a somewhat gloomy vibe. That said, the nostalgic 90s touches—pinball machines, an old payphone, and tube TVs—added character. With a bit more investment in lighting, the space could really shine and match the energy of its retro theme. They also has a brewery that was unique to the location.
Final Thoughts:
Despite the shortcomings in presentation, the food was cooked to order and tasted good. Hambys isn’t a go-to spot for me, but I’d return occasionally. Overall, I’d recommend it—with the caveat that the team should focus on tightening up execution and visual appeal to truly deliver on its potential.
