Mooonchies Mexican Snacks

The sitting setup is strange, once inside it is not clear where to walk first to place an order, make a line and the place looks crowded. We ordered a chilindrina and a Buldak ramen bowl with chips. Right away we were disappointed because we were informed that the long chicharron chilindrina could not be served to-go. She said only the “small” can be served in a to-go box which consisted in smaller pieces chicharrones. According to her, the typical long one-piece chicharron did not fit in a to go box which is strange because other restaurants have no restaurants serving it to-go. I had no choice but to accept the smaller option since my order was to go. In addition, we ordered two aguas frescas and when we attempted to choose a size she said there is “only one size”. The aguas frescas were extremely sugary and we could not drink them. The chilindrina was done first, however, it was done much quicker than the rest of the order that by the time they completed the order it had been at least 15 minutes and it had become soggy with the hot sauce and sour cream which was unpleasant. While it was done, I could see my food just sitting there behind the counter and they would not give it to me, I assume they were attending other orders and busy, but wouldn’t it make sense to either make it later or hand it to the client instead of letting it get soggy? The place was too dirty to eat in and that is why we decided to take our food to go. It is not well kept there was trash and floor was filthy and unkept. The floor is concrete and it’s missing large spots of paint all around however, it looks as though has never been mopped. The tables and chairs were also very dirty but the filth was not from the typical mess after people have ate, it was old oily dirt and stains that may have been there for weeks or longer. What is worse, none of the employees were wearing globes while they were handling and preparing the food. (see video) The lack of hygiene was prominent in the whole restaurant, from the furniture, especially in the kids play equipment (see pictures), the rag that they use to wipe the surfaces is the same rag that some of the employees were using to wipe their hands after handling food. Lastly, the place does not have commercial doors that open and close easily or automatically as you operate them, instead, it has residential French doors (see pictures). As we were leaving, the last person in our party left the door slightly open (it is not clear if they want the door open or closed) and we started to walk away we heard and saw an employee slam the door shut behind us. We couldn’t believe how rude and unwelcoming they were treating their customers. If they do not want the door left open, maybe they should either ask politely for clients to close the doors as they leave or invest in different doors. This is was the first and LAST time trying this place and I do not recommend anybody goes to this restaurant. There are definitely much better, similar options for you and your family out there.

Such a cool little place. The only thing cooler than the vibe (and owners) at Mooonchies is their homemade ice cream, and agua frescas.

Love bringing my kids here to play the Big Jenga and jump around in the bounce house.

Personally, I come for the home made funnel cakes covered in fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
