Award wining upscale Italian Restaurant from local Restaurateur Christian Joseph. Hand made pasta and bread are the stand out in this very chic and hip atmosphere. Voted diners choice by Open Table, with awards from Wine Spectator, Societe Mondiale du Vin, and the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. Overall, this was a pretty underwhelming experience.
I ordered the coppa di maiale and the arugula salad, and we shared the arancini. The coppa and polenta came out lukewarm, like they’d been sitting for a while, and the “crispy onions” were soggy. Flavor was fine, but everything clearly needed more salt. The Calabrian chili mix was genuinely good, and the service itself was solid. Honestly, the arugula salad was better than the main dish.
My wife ordered the Caesar salad and the radiatori alla zozzona. The Caesar was extremely dry, basically just a head of romaine with minimal dressing. The radiatori, though, was by far the best thing we had and had significantly more flavor than anything else on the table.
For dessert, we had the bombolini and budino. We skipped the tiramisu because it only came in a massive portion. Dessert was fine, but nothing memorable.
We were surprised when the check came and we were charged for side salads. We assumed they were included since it was not specified anywhere on the menu.
Overall, I wouldn’t come back and wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s not bad enough that I’d tell people to avoid it either. Just an underwhelming experience for the price point.

I visited Plate Italiano Moderno for the first time during the holidays while visiting Kansas City. We made a reservation and arrived early to sit at the bar and have some drinks. The bartender Alexandria so pleasant and professional, we decided to stay in the bar area to order our meals. While we deciding on entrees, I ordered a extra dirty Martini. It was perfect and just what I needed. We ordered the butter noodles for our son, which arrived to the table quickly, and the meatballs for the appetizer. I loved the spice that was in the meatballs. The beef was tender and full of flavor. We also ordered the Bolegnese, Branzino as entrees to split. Everything was delicious. Overall, I truely enjoyed the food and stellar service provided from Plate Italiano and I will be returning soon!

Excellent food, service, and intimate, warm atmosphere. We had the poached pear bruschetta, featuring gorgonzola cream, arugula, and toasted walnuts, as our starter. The salmon (grilled perfectly), tomato agrodolce, white balsamic, and chives. The tomatoes were cold and the basalmic vinegar was hot. The temperature difference was a fascinating and enjoyable experience. Sweet and tart. It was delicious. The dessert consisted of lemon ricotta panna cotta, blood orange gelée, pine nut crumble, and rosemary sugar. Balanced flavors between tart and sweet, cold and creamy textures.

The restaurant is really nice and clean, with a fancy look and a great atmosphere. I love how each table feels private, like its own little space. The host was very polite, and our waitress was great he gave us lots of options.
The only downside was that they were out of a few things, including some beers, which was a bummer since we went for Happy Hour. We tried the Truffle Garlic Bread, it was okay, not amazing, but worth a try. The sangria was decent.
They made a small hamburger for my kid, and it was actually really good, cooked perfectly, and the fries were delicious. My favorite thing was the margherita pizza. I also tried the Funghi pasta, but it wasn’t that great. I’ve had better elsewhere.
Overall, the place is beautiful and worth visiting for the atmosphere, but the food was just okay for me. Not sure if I’d rush back, but I wouldn’t mind giving it another try someday.

Fantastic experience for a date night. The food was amazing – some of the top Italian in Kansas City. Get yourself the olive Oil Cake and thank me later. But the service really topped the experience. Joey was our waiter and he made sure our evening was nothing short of exceptional providing detailed recommendations alongside quick and friendly service.

We were here for a birthday dinner. Food was phenomenal. I liked what I ordered but was really wanting to try their carbonara and some tiramisu, neither of which were available on the evenings dinner menu. Maybe we’ll come back someday.

Devin was a great server. I had prix fix with risotto balls, yum. The modern salad is my new favorite restaurant salad. So good. The pasta course was the paperdelle. A truly religious experience. The final touch was the olive oil cake. Damn good. This was our belated Valentine’s Day. Worth waiting another day.

We returned to Plate Italian Moderno to try their pizza, which was prepared great in the wood-fired pizza brick oven. The Arancini rice balls are a good appetizer too!

We visited this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the food quality felt closer to a 2-star experience while the prices reflected a 4–5 star restaurant. The customer service was excellent, but it didn’t make up for the lack of spice in the flavor, the price, and the very limited menu options.
We were served pasta with a red sauce, but we weren’t given any Parmesan cheese, which would have enhanced the flavor. Overall, the dish just felt like it was missing something.
Another drawback is that the menu has no photos, so you have no idea what the dishes look like—or how they might taste—beyond the written descriptions. Given our experience, it’s surprising to see such consistently high reviews for this restaurant.

One of the best overall dining experiences! Waitress Michelle was welcoming, attentive, genuine, and clearly loves creating the guest experience. True example of luxury service. The food was absolutely delicious. The meatballs, truffle garlic bread, house made pasta, and KC strip is some of the best in Kansas City. The lemon ice cream sandwich was simply divine! You don’t have to like lemon to enjoy this refreshing dessert, the perfect end to the savory dishes. Shout out to Pastry Master Talent Nikki! We can’t wait to come back!!!
