Thank you for the response.
I understand that recipes vary by region and household, and I respect that taste is subjective. However, my comment was not about flavour preference. It was about the strong orange staining on my fingers, which remained even after multiple washes.
Having cooked with Kashmiri chilli and tomato-based gravies at home for years, I have not experienced this kind of staining from natural ingredients alone. I shared this observation based on my direct experience with the dish.
I appreciate your clarification and will leave it at that for other diners to decide for themselves.
First review :
I ordered butter chicken with garlic naan, expecting at least a basic level of authenticity. What I received was extremely disappointing.
The butter chicken had tiny, barely-there pieces of chicken floating in a huge amount of thick gravy — or more accurately, a bright orange, heavily coloured sauce. The chicken felt like an afterthought.
I ate with my hand (as butter chicken and naan are commonly eaten), and my fingers turned bright orange. I’m attaching photos as prof – This is after washing twice with soap and warm water.
The taste was not authentic at all. It felt overly processed, as if made using ready-made pastes, excessive colouring, and preservatives, rather than fresh ingredients and real spices.
I know this because I make butter chicken at home, and this tasted nothing like the real thing.
I’m also sharing the receipt to show that I genuinely ate here — though calling this a “meal” might be generous. It felt more like something made to fill the stomach, not something to enjoy.
Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for real Indian food.
The service was excellent as well — warm, attentive, and exceptionally efficient. The team made sure our entire group felt welcomed and well taken care of.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Dunedin and looking for great Indian food and a wonderful dining experience!
We also got a mango lassi, tasted delicious.
Thank you for a great dinner.
